Canis Panther, also known as Panther dog, is considered to be the ultimate guard dog out there. And there's a reason behind it.

Canis Panther is actually a cross breed, bred from 4 different breeds: Doberman Pinscher, Labrador Retriever, Great Dane, and American Staffordshire terrier.

Considering his strong, protective genes coming from the 4 best guard dog breeds, it's no wonder that Panther dogs make the ultimate guard dogs that are getting more and more popular each year.

00:54 - History

Who stands behind the creation of this amazing breed?

Here’s the story. Canis Panther was bred in the 1970s by the then famous dog trainer Scorpio Jones and his fellow trainers L. Lopez and Michael Gypsy Stratten. The trio created it as an answer to the difficulty of finding popular working dog breeds in the U.S. such as Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and Dobermans. ( Yes, they were really THAT rare back then. )

So, they decided to make their own guard dog breed. And the result was this graceful breed.

01:22 - Physical Appearance

Canis Panther is an intelligent, large dog with a muscular body. Does it remind you of another breed? Well, it indeed resembles a Doberman in posture but has wider chest and jaw.

Some dog owners crop their ears and dock their tails, but that's really not necessary. Panther dogs grow to be quite big and can reach the height of 31 inches.

Their fur is short-haired, dense and smooth and is typical of black color. But, Panther dogs can also come in other colors such as brown, blue and chocolate.

Prefer a dog that doesn’t leave a lot of hair around? Canis Panthers don't shed much which makes their coat very easy to maintain.

Grooming a Canis Panther will be a real breeze.

2:10 - Temperament

Despite their distinctive, fearsome appearance, these dogs can actually be very sensitive. Canis Panther will have two personalities.

One of a tough, guard dog that would do everything to protect its family, and one of an affectionate and loyal friend that will always obey his master.

If trained well, a Canis Panther will be the most loving dog towards his big and little family members.

2:35 - Training

You'd be surprised how easy it is to train Panther dogs. They just need a firm, authoritative approach from their owner and they will quickly pick up on any command.

Just remember that you must be the one making the decisions, not your dog, and your Canis Panther will follow your lead!

2:53 Conclusion

You probably realized so far that this breed is quite fit and sleek looking. So, in order to keep their body fit and muscular, these dogs need space where they could regularly run and play.

This is why Canis Panther is usually the best choice for people that have large yards. However, it won't require excessive training, from 40 minutes to 60 minutes will be just enough.

Another great thing about Panther dogs is that they have no dominant health-related issues in their genes! If you want to keep your Canis Panther’s health at peak, you will have to ensure it gets the best, high-quality food and a regular amount of exercise.

  • Honestly, what an incredibly awesome dog! With the Doberman you get the natural protection instincts, the aggression (in a good way) and the agility. With the Great Dane you get the power and size. With the Labrador you get the loyalty and playfulness & with the am-staff you get their resilience and endurance 🙌🏻
  • Amazing. Never heard of them before. Beautiful, intelligent and protective, with a bit of "snuggly" thrown in. I am currently battling some mobility issues issues and unable to give a high-energy dog what it needs, but I can admire from a distance.

Wow! How beautiful! Thank you so much for this video, without you I wouldn’t have known about this spectacular breed! My father and I have been searching fir the best guard dog for a while now, I’ll send this to him!

This is the first time I have ever heard or seen any information about this dog. What a beautiful dog.. I have a Black Mouth Cur that I adopted from a shelter here in SC not knowing what breed he is. I love him very much. This Panther Dog is a beauty and I have never heard about this dog before. I am anxious to tell my neighbor and his wife about this breed and my neighbor grew up the Dobermans and loves the breed. I know he would be interested in this dog and hearing about the breed.. Thanks so much for making this video and sharing it with the world, I might add. Much luck and love with the breed now and in the future.
  • They look like a Thinner Version of a Cane corso. I didnt know about this breed, they are gorgeous.
  • My niece and her family have a Canis Panther. It is what I would call "buckskin" in color with black highlights. Cropped ears and a docked tail. This animal looks magnificent! Beautiful color and muscular body, yet a certain elegance in the way he carries himself. Yet, this dog is well socialized with other animals and humans. Not only does his "pack" include two adults and three teenagers, but also two pugs, a cat, and a rabbit. He is a big, playful lovebug with his pack and people he knows. His first year of training has been socialization and obedience and he has done well (extremely intelligent and eager to please). Soon, he will begin his training for the "protection" function. This will be done with professionals to make sure he will still remain a sociable and loving dog, yet willing and able to protect when called upon to do so. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I have a rescue mutt, a lean athletic 90 pounds. He likes to run and hunt critters all day on our three acre property. I was walking him one day and a passerby swore he was a canis panther dog. I just found your video and definitely he’s a good match in both appearance and behavior. Glad I found your channel.
  • @SuperPokeMe
Thanks for this great video about this extraordinary breed! Do you have any breeders to advise?
  • @Patriotx-gx4ce
Retriever is best protective breed she says. Love it.😂
  • @rckindkitty
I believe that she misspoke about the guarding abilities of amstaffs, labs, and great danes. If it was just the amstaff, I would let it slide as some of them have good potential for personal protection. One could also make the claim that throwback great danes were used. The canis panther might be a great guard dog, but you should go back and change your opening statement about the four foundation breeds used in creating the breed.

Canis Panther is not a purebred dog. It is a designer breed aka a mutt. A doberman pinscher crossed with any mastiff or bully breed. Usually it is a doberman crossed with an american staffordshire terrier. However some people like to cross mastiff in as well for size Personally I like the look in the ones crossed with american staffordshire terrier
  • @VictoriaHatzson
They look and sound incredible! I wish they become more famous!
  • @c.randall1135
We have always had Dobermans. Unfortunately, the increase of DCM and other health issues have been too devastating for us. We are now looking into this breed...wanting that loyalty and intelligence of a Doberman minus health issues. Do you have any experience with reputable breeders? Thank you!
  • @Noahsark17
I love the story behind this breed. Life is about innovation💯
  • @TheHumbuckerboy
They are nice looking dogs that remind me of another breed known as the 'Donovan Pinscher' which is a cross between the Doberman and Pitbull although the Donovan Pinscher appears to be perhaps more aggressive .
