Did you know that Yoko Ono claimed that being pregnant with her first child felt like having a tumor inside of her, and that said child’s father did everything he could to keep the two apart? When Yoko Ono married John Lennon in 1969, she had a child from a previous marriage. Over the course of her marriage to John, she and the Beatle would become embroiled in a manhunt attempting to track this child down. It seems that Yoko’s previous husband wanted their daughter to have nothing to do with her, and he got his wish until the child was 31 years old. That child’s name is Kyoko Chan Cox, and she is now 59.

Before marrying John Lennon, Yoko Ono was married to an alternative artist by the name of Tony Cox. In 1963, Yoko and Tony had Kyoko. When Yoko left Tony for John Lennon in 1969, Tony decided that there was no way that a Beatle was going to raise his kid. After a series of custody disputes that saw the courts award Yoko and John visitation rights, Tony took Kyoko and fled. This then resulted in a manhunt that spanned the 1970s, during which Yoko and John used up every resource they had to try and find the girl.

Despite Yoko and John is one of the most famous couples in the world, they failed to find Kyoko and her father. It wasn’t until many years later that an adult Kyoko sought out her mother on her own volition. Today, Yoko and Kyoko remain close. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Yoko Ono’s long-lost daughter has finally come forward.

Most surprising to me was John didn’t want much to do with Julian when he was married to Cynthia but wanted Kyoko when he was married to Yoko. Just an observation from the video. Not my opinion

I babysat Kyoko while she and Tony were in Amsterdam in the 1970's. She was a sweet girl, and Tony was a great dad. I enjoyed my time with them.

It’s deplorable how those two neglected their first born children. Not much respect for them at all
  • He was good at music. But he definitely failed as a father to Julian. Julian wished his father paid attention to him as much as he looked for yokos daughter. Julian deserved better.

To me there’s no forgiving Yoko for how she treated Julian.
  • Did not surprise me that she didn’t want her daughter, she also didn’t want John Lennons son that would her step son.
  • John wasn't great to Julian before he and Cynthia split up but he completely dumped Julian when he met Yoko. Yoko was jealous of Julian. It was Disgraceful how he treated Julian but when Sean was born he turned into father knows best. Zero respect for either of them.
  • I always wondered if this was why Yoko fought so hard to keep Julian out of John's life. If she couldn't have her daughter, he couldn't have his son. Then again, it could have just been her jealousy of anyone taking John's attention from her....Julian.....Paul McCartney etc.
  • I wouldn’t have wanted Yoko &John to raise my daughter, either.
  • John didn’t care about his own kid but only her daughter while complaining about how his mother abandoned him.
  • I have never been a fan of the couple but to learn that she could refer to her pregnancy as a tumor? That is just horrific.
  • I always wondered why Yoko didn't make The Guinness Book of World records as the worst singer who ever lived🤣

Considering John and Yoko's lifestyle, it was probably better for the child the way she was raised by her father. Don't think the lifestyle of John and Yoko would have been a good environment for a small child...look how much of a negative impact their lifestyle had on his son, Julian.
  • I'm just glad that Kyoko was finally able to reunite with her Mother and Brother Sean. I would not hold any grudges against Tony though. I understand his side too.
  • It is a pity John did not spend so much time and energy on keeping in touch with his own son...

I read that Yoko didn’t have much if any maternal instinct with her kids, she had John watch him as a baby and then a nanny after his death. The fact that Kyoko really didn’t have much to do with her mother says a lot.

John Lennon was a great composer, singer but a flawed, duplicitous person. His son Julian, is a far better man. I hope he find true happiness eventually.
  • As parents on the whole BOTH john and Yoko have a checked history. Their lives seemed very self oriented and not at all healthy for a child. This situation must have been very difficult and painful for Julian and Cynthia, as they were cast aside for something else. So glad that Kyoko and Julian both had devoted loving parents.
