Attempting the hardest route up Snowdon - Crib Goch

Published 2020-08-24
I had always wanted to go back and summit Snowdon via Crib Goch, a Grade 1 scramble in Snowdonia, Wales. It is widely considered the most challenging route to the top. The highest point in England and Wales is a popular one, and for good reason. The views are spectacular.

If anyone you know is thinking of a Snowdon hike, share this video with them.

Do your research before taking on this ridge: it can be treacherous, especially in bad weather conditions so prepare well to keep yourself and others safe

Me and two mates just did this route accidentally the other day, we thought it was the pyg track.. needless to say we were terrified but none the less made it across in one piece, beautiful day and no wind thankfully. Amazing experience but Iโ€™m not rushing to do it again and as a not so experienced hiker it was definitely a lesson to be more discerning about routes that my friend picks out at 3am without knowing what they are!

I went over crib with my young son quite a few years ago. He absolutely loved it. Some years later as a 30 something adult he returned to cross it with some friends and could barely believe he had done it at 12 years of age.

As a native to North Wales, I absolutely adore Snowdon and Snowdonia. Iโ€™ve done Snowdon in full twice via the Watkin Path and that was scary enough for me, so props to you for doing Crib Goch!

Completed crib Goch Friday and I watched this before going and cameras do NOT do the ridge justice. ๐Ÿ˜‚ What an amazing experience I can't wait to do again. A real test of one's nerves ๐Ÿ˜‚

Brilliant, did the mountain when I was 14 with little experience, other than Scafell Pike. It's definitely an illusion when you're up there. It almost looks like you could walk down. Maybe it's just the fearless young child within me at the time. I didn't appreciate what I'd achieved until my later years. I remember we took my Aunties Border Collie up there and said illusion must be real because he thought he could literally run down the side of the mountain and I remember my Grandad holding onto his leash for dear life! Wasn't until we moved onto Snowdon that you could see the sheer drop. Incredible experience. The weather that day was fantastic and definitely helped. Will definitely be going back now I'm in my twenties. Without the Dog of course! (He is still alive) Good memories, this video took me back. Thanks for sharing.

Nice vid! I love Snowdon and the surrounding peaks. Partly because of childhood nostalgia, and well, on a clear day like you had, the views you show say it all really!
