Almanac: Hawaii granted statehood

On March 18 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a law making Hawaii the 50th state of the United States of America. Charles Osgood reports in this "Almanac" originally broadcast in 2001.

  • Was it better living under a few privileged whose privileges were obtained through what, conquest by violence? It's understandable every individual yearns for a clear sense of identity and belonging. Unfortunately such yearning is often exploited by those who desire wealth and power by fooling other people.
