ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Arriving in Modesto, CA was exciting! I started with a donut and coffee and Mr.T's Delicate Donuts, which was excellent. I then headed downtown and explored the cruising history of Modesto, a town the movie American Graffiti was based upon. The usual landmarks were lovely, and included the McHenry Museum and McHenry Mansion.

About Modesto: Modesto is located in the Central Valley, 68 miles (109 km) south of Sacramento and 90 miles (140 km) north of Fresno. Distances from other places include: 40 miles (64 km) north of Merced, California, 92 miles (148 km) east of San Francisco, 66 miles (106 km) west of Yosemite National Park, and 24 miles (39 km) south of Stockton.

The city is surrounded by rich farmland. Stanislaus County ranks sixth among California counties in farm production.[10] It is home to Gallo Family Winery, the largest family-owned winery in the United States.[11] Led by milk, almonds, chickens, walnuts, and corn silage, the county grossed nearly $3.1 billion in agricultural production in 2011. The farm-to-table movement plays a central role in Modesto living as in the Central Valley. #modesto #travel #rosieokelly

I was born there, grew up there in the '70s, and went to high school there in the '80s. Then, when I was around 19, I realized that we were free to go. I go back to visit family and, am GLAD I left. I've never seen so many Dodge Chargers and neck tattoos in my life.
  • Modesto is so beautiful with it's trees everywhere. It's within driving distance of mountains and ocean. So many places to go and stay.

Born and raised in Modesto and after 40 years living here I can tell you Modesto’s most beautiful time is about 3 am when the city is asleep and quiet because soon as it wakes up all hell breaks loose

As someone who lived a few blocks down from the downtown area, I can say I've visited almost all of these places you showed off. It's been getting nicer and nicer throughout the years. I hope you had a great time there, I'm planning on maybe moving back.

My grandparents Carl Emanuel Tatting and Emmy Wickstrom, we’re from Sweden & settled here in Modesto. I have so many fond memories of all the picnics, visiting all the relatives who owned property and were in agriculture when I was a young girl in the 60s. It’s sad now, most of the properties been sold off before, my dad passed away I took six of my grandkids to meet him and he gave us a tour of the home that my grandfather helped build in the 20s, and then one that he built for his family in the 40s. They don’t build homes like that anymore, he also helped build the old bridge with lions that stood on the ends of it. My dad grew up on River Road, the river was in his backyard, I used to love visiting my grandma Emy there. My uncle George Tiura married my aunt Gertrude Tatting, uncle George was a blacksmith, he owned a shop and made blades and other things for farming machinery, my cousin David followed in his footsteps and ran the shop for many years. 🤗💗🌷

If you ever come by here again, west MJC has a very nice nature museum and both campuses are open to the public. There are a lot of classic car shows in the summer. There is also an American Graffiti museum being built downtown!

As a local, some of the best spots are the Hawke Castle on Magnolia and Needham, and the houses in Del Rio. They are worth the drive alone to see. Thanks for this eye opening tour of my hometown. It was neat to hear some new facts!
