Here's the tablet I bought last year: XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro. I needed something fairly big (21.5 inch was just right for my work area) with a built in adjustable stand that can be used as a 2nd monitor (so 1080p made sense to match the main monitor), built in shortcut keys and wheels (no room for comfortably accessible keyboard), and it had to work with windows 7 and 10 (for current pc and for future pc), and I didn't care for mobility or touch screen options and instead I needed something with good quality at a reasonable price without having to buy anything extra. 600$ seemed fine. And I found the tablet that fits my needs, paid it off in 4 months and... drawing became fun again! I hated drawing on my old Wacom 13HD, the screen felt tiny and cramped, CSP ui was also super tiny and it was sometimes hard to click on the right icons and it had no stand so it was really straining to draw on for a longer time. I went from not drawing for weeks or even months to drawing daily (in fact, I'm at 255 daily drawings right now and I've been learning a lot about drawing in CSP but also drawing in general and I'll use that knowledge for my future comics). Sometimes the right tools can make a big difference :D

I am not shopping for a new tablet but I always find your tech videos so informative. I like that you make it easy when keeping up to date with what drawing tech is currently out there. Thank you for the great video <3

The work that went into this guide is incredible

Thank you Josh! Its so rare to find such honest, unbiast and objective reviews on YouTube. Im so tired of Youtubers just prestenting Tablet X, talking for 10 mins about how good everything is and how well basically ALL new tablets are performing, because obviously thats just not true. As a beginner for digital art you can quickly get a false impression of how the state of the technology actually is and you realy help to prevent that by giving such profound insights. Keep it up!
  • @Alexis-ix4oo
omg! been looking forward to this from you! its always fun to see what you make.

Ok, i guess ill watch the 2 full ads for this one. You deserve this and more. Thank you for this video, its a great contribution to the art community. 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️ Queen Amidala would be proud.
  • Man, this video is excellent and so helpful. i'm not even half way through. I've learnt so much. Digital art can be such a minefield of tech. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
  • @davidorji4224
I just keep coming back to your channel for art advice. Thanks for existing, Josh

Thank you for this! I've been looking into the mobile tablets specifically for a while, but you're the first person to cover all the aspects of drawing with this range that I've seen! This has been so helpful as I continue to think on this. I really would love a video comparing the iPad in a Mac environment vs the Galaxy in a Windows one if/when you can. I'm very hesitant to get into the Apple ecosystem (will be building a PC in the future), but I can't deny the performance - also curious on WWDC. Thank you again!

What a wonderful video!! You really put so much freaking work into this! I am still using my OG iPad Pro and will continue to use it for as long as it lasts before changing it. My old cintiq and intuos tablets are not compatible with anything at all at this moment, so I am just trimming down my digital art collection. I have also reduced my art output by quite a bit (8-5 job + dissertation) and am concentrating on watercolors at the moment. But this is freaking useful as technology continues to change and there are so many more options than 3-4 years ago even!
  • @AzureMystic
I deeply appreciate all the effort that you put into this video for us all to see. I have been using an XP-Pen for about 3 years now and I know I want to upgrade my Art PC when I have a chance to do so. I was also thinking about upgrading the tablet as well. Another friend has a Huion but I don't hear too much about said brand too often. Visually being able to see by the comparisons and such was very helpful and also seeing mobile tablets. Something I have also thought about but never truly considered until watching this. I feel I will come to a decision soon when the time does come to upgrade again. Thank you once again so much for sharing this knowledge with us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this!! Perfect timing for me since I’m on the hunt to upgrade my drawing set up :)
  • @zykzi
I really appreciate and was surprised that you touched on the Huion pen pressure thing. I find it's really hard to get my lines to flow nice in CSP, probably because of this, and I was surprised and comforted that you said you also have to change the pen pressure settings both in app and with the tablet settings itself. So now I don't worry my hand just can't do nice brushstrokes. I was considering to buy a new pen to see if there would be any difference or improvement, but thanks to this video I think that would be a waste of money; not to mention the only pen I could upgrade to is a battery pen. Also want to mention that my tablet came with 2 pens and there is a pen pressure difference between them, another reason i considered trying a new pen. It's only a QOL thing anyway, I can still draw, and only even noticed an issue because I had the two to compare with each other. You only touched on it for maybe 2 minutes, but thanks very much for pointing it out lol. Despite already being subbed to you, I found this video as I was looking for actual reviews on Huion, to see if their newer models may hold up for a few years. Though mine has had very little issues, I know a lot of other people have had issues with their Huions, at least the older models.
