The Escape is a great small SUV. My wife and I are on our 4th Escape. we have owned them since its introduction in 2001. We use it to tow small boat, trailer, jet ski's.. We now own a 2016 Escape titanium 2.0. What a blast to drive.

YOu are the best Dave I love your reviews! So informative and easy to follow!
  • @JMANABQ45
Dave thanks for your review. I was having trouble deciding weather I wanted another Ford Fusion or an escape. You make it sound like a great car to get. You are a good speaker. You tell it like it is and no fluff.

The 2018 Escape took a few downturns. I traded in my 2016 Escape titanium (which I loved) for a 2018 Escape titanium because the lease was up and I wanted the adaptive cruise control, which was not available on the 2016. Since both vehicles were the same in every possible way including the color, I can safely make an excellent comparison. To start, the 2018 has the very annoying auto start/stop, which for now, can be overridden with a button each time you start it. Next, the I paid for a premium stereo system which the 2016 version sounded great, good power and sound. The 2018 stereo is sooo bad, it's like punishment on long trips back and forth from New Jersey to Michigan. In fact, I brought the vehicle back to the dealer because I thought there was something seriously wrong with the unit, even doing a side by side comparison to my 2016 Escape that was still there. In summary, It's only a few steps above two paper cups tied together with string, no kidding. Next, Ford changed those wonderful HID headlights and made them less powerful, the transmission shifts into overdrive much too soon and does not like to come out of it. You get that annoying hummm and drone of the engine being overloaded by the transmission. They also changed the gear ratio of the steering. My 2016 had "go cart" style quickness in the steering with lightning quick throttle and brake response, oversized brakes and a trans cooler with the towing package. I miss my 2016. Doesn't anyone from the Ford design team drive the vehicle for like a month to fix these little bugs ? and why change things like the steering , throttle, brake response ? Why the stinkin' radio ? Quoting Nicolas Cage " If they attack the car, save the radio"

Just got one of these today! Thank my mom for that she convinced me to get one! And I'm in love!
  • Might want to share impressions of the all wheel drive system for those of us who currently are in the fwd Escape
  • @aliajayde
I love the design, I bought my third Escape last year, but BE WARNED. The APIM is still an issue. In less than a year mine went out, and for THREE MONTHS I had no radio, no navigation, no rear camera, no power outlets... It took 6 visits to the dealer, 4 repair attempts and about 24 hours of sitting at the dealer for Ford to admit I had a bad APIM. I’m offloading this thing as soon as possible. I no longer trust Ford or their product. They lost a long time family of customers.

I purchased a new 2013 Escape SE 1.6 turbo new $23,000 cash no trade.I must say that I super enjoy driving it on the twisties in the Ozarks. This SUV drives and handles great. I can achieve 35 mpg on flat roads easily. I also have a 2016 Subaru Outback 2.5 Premium model, but the Escape is my favorite. It is peppy for a small engine.I have been thinking about trading it but nothing I have test driven yet impresses me enough to trade for. In my opinion Mazda C-X5 and  Nissan Rogue where no better during my road test.

The 2.0 EcoBoost is also available in the SEL
  • @thesteaktc
Should be able to wave your foot underneath to close the hatch too, and push the button in the cabin. You can on earlier models.
  • @76carmel
Dave - I’ve noticed your help has come out of the Seattle area. Aren’t you based out of Spokane? (4 hrs east via I-90)
  • @ashleymaria29
My dad worked for ford assembly plant in Oakville Ontario. His main job was general stores. But he also got to test drive vehicles that would be going to the dealership. He was 6.3 in height. So he was way too tall for any vehicle. Good thing I told him about the driver's seat can go down.
  • @willie9397
looks just like mine, 17 though and not titanium great vehicle so far
  • Anyone that has an 2018 escape what do you think of the head rests they angle forward and are not straight up and down can't adjust only thing i don't like with mine
