For over 50 years, Stanley Bard was the manager of the Hotel Chelsea in New York. He served as gatekeeper to an eclectic mix of artists, writers, poets, and musicians who passed through the hotel’s doors through the years.   • Spent my 20s - in the 80s I was living at the Chelsea Hotel- 5th floor- 23rd street side. Stanley only charged me $50 for the week. I kept a journal that has been duck taped closed for for all these years, Have never opened it. So happy when stories of the Chelsea are shared. PLACE is totally haunted!! Had some really scary interesting experiences there.

    stayed there once in the late eightys. georgous vintage room, big bay windows, jus the rite amt of tawdry.....chatted with viva and other artists.

    Bet Stanley would be pretty bummed by the renovation and overpriced rooms only available for part time stay. Such ashame
