In this fascinating documentary we meet the people responsible for the smooth running of a major international airport. Running Bristol International is a team effort, from pilots and cabin crew to check-in, safety and security. These people, whatever the weather, are responsible for making sure planes arrive and depart on time.

In this episode, it's the start of another busy day at Bristol Airport. The airport fire team gets down to some serious training and Claire Barbier from British Airways awaits her first solo flight.

You don't realise how much ATC have to do and all the computers and writing wow well done guys
  • I live on the flight-path to Bristol Airport but my reason for commenting is to wish Claire all the best šŸ‘

The music choices they use are hilarious.
  • ATC in the tower is only about 5% of ATCā€¦ā€¦ā€¦most donā€™t realise 95% of controllers are nowhere near an airport and not in any towerā€¦..sector control

Do train drivers and ship's captains have to check a train or ship personally the way pilots have to check a plane?
  • @FigaroHey
Talking of a burning airplane and people escaping "under their own steam", as though flames are not scalding enough.

Loved the Enya song included lol
  • The manual fire fighting, while impressive, seems to go against the latest fire fighting procedures, basically your primary firefighting is to be done using the various nozzles on the trucks and all the foam you have. The truck nozzles have a much higher gallons per minute flow rate than the manual hoses. You basically, very rapidly, drown the burning engine in foam.

2005. Back when Boeing ruled the skies of UK.
  • I wonder if Claire ended up going another way than flying crop-dusting. With modern single engine pressurized cabin turboprops there are a lot of options.
