Published 2023-05-05
There is so much Joy in this episode as Dr Nancy adopts Joy! That's not all though, xrays are taken, Kory trains a horse, and a new 'employee' finds some very important medical that was left out on the ground...

Please give that poor Standardbred so much love and extra treats. My heart broke when I saw those whip marks. He still carried himself with so much dignity.

People forget that wild horses have a lifespan around 20 years. The 30+ horses you see have never missed a hoof trim or vet check. They had a balanced died and good breeding. Never overworked or beaten. Over 20 with no care is a miracle for most horses.

From Australia I'm surprised that the Amish don't treat their horses with more care as they give so much to their owners

Ace had the best home and lived his best life with Kory. Run free Ace ❤
  • I had a bird with a heart condition I had been treating for over a year. I took her to the vet because she was having problems. When I found out her heart condition was worse, I asked them to put her down. The Dr wouldn't do it. So I gave her to a nurse who worked at the vet, she was crazy about her. I said I don't think this is the best thing for her. I said I didn't think she would make it a week. Sure enough, 3 days later, I got a call telling me I was right. This was the first vet I ever had that wouldn't put an animal that was ready to be let go down. I found a new vet.

I'd rather these beautiful creatures enjoy a couple of wonderful days in the sun and grass then end their days in misery unloved. Thank you for letting them have a couple days of peaceful leisure in a herd.

@14:05, yes. Work with your vet. My mare is 25. She had a rough winter despite awesome feed and dental care. I've had her since she was a weanling but I might have to put her down before this next winter. It's going to about kill me to make that decision, but I refuse to ship her to slaughter.

  • @cynthiamcgee4829
But like you said doctor Nancy they didn't ship they're out on pasture they're enjoying their life, and they are feeling love for their last days? Thank god for you all

I started riding when I was four years old; we had horses my whole life growing up, and trained more than one of them ourselves. We'd use quirts and buggy whips as cues, yes, but never ever would we have ever considered striking a horse like that; a light tap, or even just a wave of the buggy whip, is enough to tell the horse what you want. The very idea of breaking a horse's skin like that is just horrifying to me. I can't imagine what kind of a person feels the need to do that. I'm so glad that poor whipped Standardbred wound up in your hands.

Wow....what an amazing video! Congratulations to Dr. Nancy on her adopting her "Darlin' Ginger! Seeing true animal ownership and the responsibilites it entails is so important. So sorry Kory had to say goodbye to Ace....such a very difficult thing to do. The older horses experience true care and attention while evaluations take place...can not ask for more than that. Horse Plus is a leader in the struggle to keep unwanted animals out of slaughterhouses. As people learn about what you do you will get even more support...and helping other Shelters become Full Circle of Life is definitely a great thing!
  • @angelamelville67
So hard for Kory to make that decision, but he made the right one for the horse and not for himself 💔 And the owners of those horses who made another tough decision made the right one by giving them to Horse Plus. Plus giving all those wonderful gifts of a trailer, saddles, food etc, how kind hearted they are ❤
