Why China Is in Africa - If You Don’t Know, Now You Know | The Daily Show

Trevor, am a Kenyan and I differ slightly with you. Western nations were the major investors in African countries and their terms were always imbalanced and unfair to us. They interfered in our politics, our social values and economic policies, on top of providing expensive loans and trade imbalanced. Although China is not the best option, it is the better option for African countries at the moment. We started being called "the rising giants" in the last decade just after China increased investments. So, if Western nations think they wanna invest here, let them battle the competition with China.

"No one cares about issues, until it affects them." So so true.

I can’t believe how the ones who once established forced labouring and conscripting in Africa actually have the shame to blame the ones who are genuinely constructing that place

US controlled IMF give out loan with 5% interest whereas the Chinese's loan interest is 2.5-2.9%, if the Chinese's loan is debt trap than what the double up interest from IMF loan will be?

No matter how bad what China has been doing in Africa, it's still nothing compared to what France has been doing there since 100 plus years, yet I haven't heard any hypocrit from the mainstream media talking about it.

Trevor, the sad thing is, Western countries cannot even say " we have never ..." because they actually did it, many times.

The reason African countries cant pay back their loans is not because China set a trap for them, but because the people in government are sharing huge sum form the loan among themselves.

Africa doesn't need a sugar daddy. It needs fewer corrupt politicians. Africa is LOADED with resources. However, poor deals are struck over and over again. Such a shame!

I'm a Ugandan. Stop blaming China through Western imperialistic angles. Blame the corrupt Ugandan gov't officials.

Nigeria hasn't been able to repay Western loans borrowed since the 70s and 80s which hardly provided physical infrastructures and were mostly purely embezzled while at least we are seeing the direct physical infrastructures being built with the Chinese loans which will surely help improve our economy. The problem is not the Chinese loans but our greedy leaders who agree high loans just to make their own profits from it as they know they cannot fully embezzle the money as they did with the borrowed Western Loans. Don't blame China who wants to do business, Blame your greedy leaders who have high Western Education but greed has made them quite willing to sell their own people!!!

What's wrong with someone taking your collateral if you default on your debt? If the bank takes away your house when you failed to repay your housing loan, would you think that the bank is colonizing your home?

America: loans money to africa. China: Does the same but with lower interest rates. America: Wait, that's illegal

Trevor thanks for the work done. I am from West Africa Togo. What Europeans are doing here is more dangerous than Chinese. Our Harbored is taken over by a french business for 35 years. Can you imagine that? Nobody says nothing until it'll maybe touch their interests.

Bottom line being, the West in general and the US in particular doesn't have a right to tell Africans with whom they can and cannot do business. If someone else offers a better deal, of course they would choose the better deal. You have to imagine how awful the West has been in Africa so far, to the point that supposedly uncivilized countries like China and Russia are embraced as a better alternative.

As a person that spent 2 years in Uganda the amount of construction I saw being done by Chinese workers was staggering.

It's so funny, if you say so, Japan and the US invested heavily in China since 1990, China has been in debt trap for 30 years, but no, China has achieved modern industrialization through hard working,so your success depends on your own efforts , foreign investment should always be appreciated
