A quiet upscale neighborhood in Newport Beach was shaken by a targeted home invasion early Tuesday morning, police confirmed.

According to preliminary information from a Newport Beach Police Department spokesperson, a resident called to report someone in their house -- located in a gated community -- around 4:45 a.m. A few moments later, the resident reported that someone shot one of the intruders, police said. It was later confirmed at a brief press conference that the homeowner was the person who shot at the suspects.

KTLA's Rachel Menitoff reports on April 16, 2024.

If that was a poor community the victims would be in jail already!

👏👏👏 Bravo home owner. Great Job at protecting your family! Never trust envious people so called "friends" outside of your immediate circle!

Home invasion can happen any where anytime day or night.
  • So the intruders knew the homeowner but didn't know he carried guns? I guess they didn't know him that well.

Citizens should be thankful they can own firearms because of the 2A. Do you think law enforcement would have saved the homeowners?

Multi-million dollar mansions with postage stamp-sized lawns. Go figure.

This happened to Dr Kim Fang in NorCal. Fortunately this homeowner was successful in stopping the home invasion.

24x7 security guard means nothing. They are usually at the entry point and are not on the grounds of the gated community! The best defense is with your own security system and easilty accessible firearms that's LOADED!!!
  • Gated community doesnt guarantee your safety, they can always wait for you to go outside your gate.

Impossible. These things don’t happen there. Just ask Governor Newsom.
  • I'm sure Rob Bonta's working hard to try to find a way to press charges against the homeowner.
