  • Where are the housing projects? Australia (along with other Anglosphere nations) is really having a terrible housing crisis right now.
  • @JimmiAlli
Now if only Melbourne could get a rail link to the airport. 😢😢
  • To see the projects I am working on in real life be represented on this show that I've been watching for years .. my god just feels surreal. Beautiful moment in my life :)

@2:16 It's funny that he uses travelling from Burwood to Caulfield as an example of how Melbourne public transport will take 1.5 hour travelling into and back out of the city compared to driving being about a 16 minute trip. As Burwood station is on the only remaining operating section of the obsolete Outer Circle railway line that was closed in the late 1890. The Outer Circle linked with the also obsolete Inner Circle railway line, and combined both of these railway lines provided a loop around the as it was then outskirts of the city, both the inner and outer lines had multiple stations on them and also provided a crossover connection with most of the railway lines branching out from central Melbourne and that includes Oakleigh station which was the Southern terminus station for the Outer Circle line. Oakleigh Station is on the Dandenong line, and the Outer Circle branched into the Dandenong line on the Eastern side of Murrumbeena station then travelled East to Oakleigh Station but there was also a branch that the train could travel West on to Caulfield Station which is two stations from Murrumbeena toward Melbourne. If this Outer Circle line was still present and connected to the Dandenong line, it would only take about 18 minutes with around nine stations to travel through using public transport. How much better would Melbourne's railway system be if the Outer and Inner circle lines weren't closed at the time and still operating Or rebuilt and reopened on the land that is still available and there instead of being used solely as walking and bike trails.
  • I found the comment about Sydney not having much public transport odd - we have metro, light rail, trains, buses, ferries, and bikeshare services. As someone from the states, Sydney's public transport network is amazing. Sure, there's plenty of delays and it can be unreliable at times, but its great how many options there are to get around.

Australia has some of the nicest city sky lines in my opinion.
  • @kosmic.sounds
Brisbane is an underrated australian city. Currently undergoing major infrastructure redevelopment.
  • @hi__hassan
Did not expect this to be the first video I'll watch in the morning today, that too while residing in Australia itself. Thanks B1M for compiling all of it.
  • I immigrated from the UK to Melbourne and the train system is the most preferred form of transport as its by far the cheapest and quickest, but it has so many flaws that make me realise just how good the London underground truly is
  • @be5on
Good to see the Nation Building Authority is finally getting some projects underway
  • Unfortunately the Brisbane Olympics won’t deliver any new legacy venues, legacy transport or anything really. It’s now a 3.6 billion dollar 2 week party. They are rolling a turd stadium with no transport connections in glitter and then reducing the capacity after the games. Hopefully clever camera angles will hide our embarrassment.
  • 2084?! I a lot of us will be gone before it’s even done! Crazy!

Was just in Melbourne and the skyline is impressive, might even be more so than NYC or Chicago. The reason being, the buildings being built in MEL aren't just giant glass boxes, they actually have elements that make them visually appealing. All we get in the states are what I mentioned, glass boxes, because developers aren't interested in making a splash or improving a skyline, they just want to use the worst materials, slap on some granite counters, and call it a 'luxury' complex. That's the biggest issue with building skyscrapers in cities these days, the majority cannot afford to live there, 'affordable housing' initiatives do not work, and everything is marketed as 'luxury' when most people just want somewhere nice, inexpensive and close to work.

Civil engineering projects never cease to amaze me in either their complexity or design. Lovely stuff.
  • @ddizon-uw6cu
Wow, I have lived in Australia for way over 5 decades and learned so much about Australia from this one B1M document.
  • @soukbonan979
My mom’s niece bought an appartment at the Saphire by the Gardens for her daughter about 2mil aud, and boi I went in, it was the best! Viewing almost a 360* glasses all around the city
  • @davidste2662
When the premier at the time announced the Melbourne Rail Loop, the price was put at $50BN and completed by 2050. Now we're at $125BN and chances are it will never be completed. Chelt to Bokky will be done by 2030. That's where all the money is. The new line is actually a way for the rich inner-south-east to reach Melbourne's Second City.
  • @mattheale1837
Plenty of construction happening in Melbourne CBD at the moment, I was there last week and the amount of cranes in the city looked like Sydney in 2018-19
