  • Obama himself gave the Queen a great present. Her Majesty collected things of her father, who died very young and whom she loved very much. Obama found letters of him in the White House archives written to Roosevelt during WW2. He gave them to her. I read somewhere that when he did this and she saw her fathers handwriting she kept silent for quit a bit, and then she said: "We are very grateful for this". Oh my - how touching.

I'm always so impressed with how well spoken Barack Obama is. He speaks with intelligence, authenticity, graciousness, insight, and always with a touch of humor.

She set the bar so high, no other monarch will ever attain what she did. Still missed every day.

He must be the classiest American who ever lived. What a dude.
  • My favourite Barack Obama and Elizabeth II moment is when he gave a toast at this big banquet unintentionally initiating the band to play national anthem. He didn’t know he had to be silent for the anthem and kept giving his speech in honour of the Queen, only realising his mistake when he finished. It actually complimented the speech really well, and when the band finished the Queen raised her glass in thanks and gave him a big smile. 😊
  • I'm European but god do I miss this man as a president. His gentle kindness, tact, intellect, eloquence. A rare gem in the high echelons of politics. The world needs more leaders like him...

It’s refreshing to hear an American president with intellect, poise, and eloquence. Barack Obama is a statesman and a great orator. God Bless America. God Save The King.🇬🇧 🇺🇸
  • I love the story about the two Obama daughters riding around the palace grounds in the Queen's gold carriage. I'm sure they reminded ER of herself and her sister at similar ages and she knew how much fun it would be for them.
  • As an American, the only thing I can think of whenever I think of the Queen is - what a life. What an incredible life she lived for the people of the United Kingdom. She didn't belong to us but know we admired her from afar.

I do not claim to know Barack Obama, nor should anyone, but man, at least he knew when to speak, when not to speak, and how to do so gracefully when he did.
  • It's not the value of the gift it's sincerety of the person who gives the gift matters.

Finally. Graciousness, kindness and gentle humor. I miss it.
  • I'm from the UK but my god I miss this man as President. An absolute credit to the American people

You can tell by watching the face of both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip that they enjoyed the conversation with President and Mrs. Obama. There was genuine pleasure and mutual respect between both couples--very different than the crass and insulting behavior of #45!

Although I’m a monarchist, if the UK ever decided to become a republic, I’d consider us very lucky to ever have a head of state as eloquent and gracious as Barack Obama. Thank you for your kind words at the passing of our much loved monarch.

That is the sweetest story, it really shows how special the Queen was. It’s so sad she’s gone.
