yey! can't wait. just wanted to comment this before the premiere if you don't mind... here are setlist and concept for the MMA 2019 perforrmance so you'll know and understand the production: Songs: 1. Intro: Persona 2. Boy in Luv 3. Boy with Luv 4. Mikroskosmos 5. Solo stages where they perform to remixes of their older songs: - V = No More Dream - Jin = Danger - Jimin = I Need You (Suga plays the piano solo for this https://youtu.be/JyHaRCMbx6A) - Suga = Fire - Jungkook = Save Me (the MV for this was done in one continuous shot, it's really cool!) - Jhope = Fake Love - RM = Intro of Dionysus (which they performed as the finale) Each member represented a Greek god: V - Apollo, God of the Sun Jin - Ares, God of War ( or Athena, God of Wisdom) Jimin - Artemis, God of the Moon Suga - Hephaestus, God of Fire JK - Poseidon, God of Sea J-Hope - Zeus, God of Thunder RM - Dionysus, God of Wine And the lights that come down before each solo performance make a star constellation, the Corona Borealis, seven stars (for 7 BTS members) that make up the distinctive crown-shaped pattern. In Greek mythology, Corona Borealis was linked to the legend of Theseus and the minotaur. It was generally considered to represent a crown given by Dionysus to Ariadne, the daughter of Minos of Crete, after she had been abandoned by the Athenian prince Theseus. When she wore the crown at her marriage to Dionysus, he placed it in the heavens to commemorate their wedding. 6. Dionysus (instrumental remix of N.O. for the dance break)

You asked about choreo? They had one choreographer in the beginning, Son Seonduk, he's been with them pretty much their whole career. As time passed other choreographers joined, and they would engage outside choreographers. Sometimes they'd work directly with them, others they'd send in a choreography and Seonduk and JHope would work together to adjust the choreo to fit the members a bit more directly. Every choreographer they have worked with has said how great it was to work with them because they're so hard working and easy to work with, very humble, and so passionate about it.

Their award performances are usually insane but this one blew everyone, they also managed to win evzry single main award that year, SOTY, AOTY ALOTY and Worldwide icon of the year. First ever sweep in history of the award show. What's worse is that they couldn't even rest and sit down after this cuz they had to get up every minute to receive each award, i felt exhausted for them like just give them a CHAIR ON STAGE it's easier 😂 they look like their legs were about to break In the end also, idk if u noticed, the backup dancers have to mive around the chairs where they do the hand move on that table, but the one that had to put jimin's chair was a bit late. Jimin was sitting on AIR like it was nothing and people noticed only when the fancams from the side view of the performance came in. That basically means they are prepared for every type of accident which means they don't actually sit their whole weight on it but sitting on air while dancing is quite... Insane.

I have chills down my spine watching this performance again. I miss our pre Covid BTS eras. I invite everyone who doesn’t know to go and read the lyrics of Persona and research the meaning behind them because every single BTS song has an important message behind them. It’s not just some pop or kpop song, the messages behind the lyrics, they really make you question society, yourself and others. That’s what attracted me to BTS all those years ago. I wish there were more songs like this in western music industry. And that’s why BTS are truly unique and above the rest of the industry. They don’t just perform, they wrote their own lyrics, co-produce, co-create their choreos. They are just the best of the best.

Now you know that the American award shows look small compared to this guest performance by BTS at an award show. This made it look like a BTS concert within the MMA Awards night. You both should attend a Live BTS Concert to personally experience the energy everyone in the venue feels....it's EUPHORIA!!!
  • Hey guys! Something helpful to know about Kpop award shows: Just like BTS concerts, Featured award show stages are a mix of pre-recorded stage performances (shot without an audience but "live" on the venue stage the day before) and live stage numbers. On TV, the entire set appears to be live, but the audience is watching parts on a giant screen that covers the stage. Here is how this one went. First song is pre-recorded, as well as the very first shot of the second song's stage set. Then the screen rises (not shown on TV) like a curtain to reveal the members in the same setting on the live stage. Second and third songs performed live on stage Fourth song pre-recorded at the venue and shown on the big screen to the audience The dance features are a mix of live and pre-recorded Most of the finale song's opening "Overture" is pre-recorded with some minor live bits here and there. The final scene of the pre-recording shows the members together again on the stage's final set. Like earlier, the audience (not us) sees the screen rise to reveal the members live on stage in the same positions as they begin the final number. A good way to know what's live is that you can see the audience. No audience shots = pre-recorded. When it all comes together it's a mind blowing and spectacular performance! Basically makes any show in the US look like a backyard talent show.
  • You are in for a treat. Keep in mind that this is an award show performance, not a concert and it’s nothing like any award show you have ever experienced. Be prepared to have your minds blown 🤯😵‍💫🫰🏻💜🇨🇦
  • it is common for groups or artists to have longer performances, usually the biggest act of the show will get 20 minutes or so if memory serves, it is absolutely not common for one group to get 40 minutes, but this was at the absolute PEAK of BTS in Korea
  • I could write a thesis on all the symbolism and references in this performance. It’s simply unmatched by any other award show performance.

Some context we all learned recently! Yes, BTS have spectacular stages at award shows, but this was especially massive, it was supposed to be almost a send off? They released their album Map of the Soul 7 following this in early 2020, and were supposed to go on a global stadium tour following its release. Unfortunately, the pandemic cancelled it. What we learned recently is the break they're currently on for their military service, they planned to start that following their 2020 tour, not now. Instead, the pandemic happened, the tour was cancelled, and BTS stayed 2 more years with us to try to make us happy during the pandemic, and they continued to give us music and performances. But that's why this stage is especially massive, it was supposed to be a send off in a way, which we only leaned during Festa when they talked about how they were supposed to take a break in 2020 🥺💜

2019 was my first Asian award show season, and I got up at 4 am here in Florida to watch. I was like, we are so jipped with ours ,the Scammys, etc. Mikrokosmos was pre taped, with AR visuals, and parts of the solos as well. But THIS performance, as a westerner, just blew me away. So much to explain. Artists at these shows perform 2 or more songs, or medley but they aren't rushed. All the groups get a chance to shine. BTS was/is different. They went from getting cut from broadcasts to making a whole award show theirs. I've not been impressed with American TV or shows, of any kind since. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. They are our kings.

They were trained to sing while running on treadmills. They are no joke to be that flawless.
  • @SWEETPEA.522
@Throga Guys I am 56 yrs young and have seen them in concert plus went to see Yoongi (Suga) this past May for my bday (a gift from Me to Me!) & I've got to tell you their concerts are the Best! Growing up as a teen in the 80's was a great time, went to many many concerts, at least 50, and none come close to BTS! Their energy, performance, connecting with their fans (ARMY), EVERYTHING FROM BEGINNING TO END, Very well planned, rehearsed and performed! I love them, they have enriched my life in ways nothing else ever has! You gotta catch 'em live next tour when they return from Military Duty. Good seats are pricey but well worth it!
  • @alm9535
Yes Johnny- that was World Wide Handsome. Good eye! Oh in the Dionysus song- WWH Jin does the low and high notes. He even does a "rock" scream at the end. There's a great story about that scream. Jin can hit some seriously high notes especially with their Japanese songs. One is Crystal Snow where Jin does a triple high note. 😊
  • @samundoko
And this is why ARMY pay good money to watch BTS perform! The planning that goes into their performances is crazy detailed! The creativity is insane! BTS performances always tell a story. As for the choreo, BTS works with their performance director and a lot of external choreographers. I enjoyed this reaction video, thanks for this Throga!
  • @Taylormari
To be honest, I didn’t expect my suggestion to be filmed as the next reaction when I first said it but I’m honored that you took it so seriously that you wanted to do it so fast 😂 I’m glad you and ARMY enjoyed watching it! It’s definitely a performance that pulled me in as a baby ARMY. And the Taylor song is stuck in my head too…😅💜
  • @patriciar.6014
"Is it a common thing for a group to have this kind of staging?" Among South Korean groups, BTS were the first ones to bring out these very elaborate stages with a lot of production and many backup dancers. But as with anything BTS did, the kpop industry was quick to follow and start to do the same ...or try to, at least. (Source: I've been watching kpop shows and generally following the industry since 2015)
  • @rema51095
RM charisma is no joke he killed this performance 🔥
  • @ashleyder9164
I just want to clarify because it sometimes causes confusion...although most of the solo features that you saw prior to Dionysus were prerecorded, that doesn't mean these performances weren't done live. The prerecordings were the ones *broadcast*, but most of the show was still performed as seen live. The only parts not done live on stage during the show itself was the horses being brought on stage (for obvious reasons) and JK's water dance (for obvious reasons). All the other performances were done live on stage, but for most of them (except Jimin), the prerecorded versions were the ones broadcast.

I am 51 years old and my daughters' first concert was BTS at Citifield Stadium, Queens NY, back in 2018. They were 10 and 11 and the time, fast forward 5 years and we are still here! Welcome down the rabbit hole gentlemen once you fall in you won't be able to get out, so enjoy!! These young men are incredibly talented and you won't regret listening to their work. Be warned that the K-pop genre will take over your playlists since there are great artists who are producing amazing work. You have a great channel and I look forward to all of your reactions.
