Would have been nice to credit the gentleman who made the 3D scan of the Cathedral. His name was Andrew Tallon. He was an art historian and professor at Vassar College. He scanned Notre Dame de Paris in 2015. Professor Tallon passed away in November 2018 at the age of 49. If you look up his name along with Vassar College in your favorite search engine you’ll find the part of Vassar’s website dedicated to his work.

As an American, I can’t possibly overstate my appreciation to the French people for ensuring that this incredible landmark received the highest attention to detail with much love and care in this fine old lady’s restoration. So many other historical landmarks should have been treated with the same understanding of their historical significance that they would’ve been repaired as needed instead of being ignored. The Parthenon is one such building. People generally aren’t aware of this, but the vast majority of the damage to the Parthenon happened during the 18th and 19th centuries. The English even had the gall to remove many of the Parthenon’s gorgeous fresco’s that surround the building along its roofline, and placed them in a museum where they sit to this day, with the English government refusing to return them back to their rightful owners, the Greek government. Unfortunately, some idiot thought that the Parthenon was going to be a good place to store live ammunition. Needless to say, it most certainly wasn’t. She too has been undergoing significant repairs and restoration, but not even remotely close to the actual work that she deserves. The Parthenon should have undergone a complete restoration, and it should’ve happened long before now. Most people don’t understand the historical significance of this building. She’s literally the very first building of her type, and emboldened significant changes to follow-on buildings around the entire world. Another such building is the Roman Colosseum. She too should have been restored back to her original design and specifications. Perhaps one day, the Italian government will come to see the architectural and historical significance this site brings to all parts of the world, and will finally decide to conduct a full and complete massive restoration of on of the most significant structures of her time. Each of these structures value is essentially priceless. A full and complete restoration of each will ensure their survival well into the distant future for all of mankind, but we must act before there’s nothing left to restore.

The cost to rebuild is worth every penny. I'm so glad I saw it before it burned and would love to see it again. I'm not sure I'll be able to do that but she is just a grand and precious "lady" and may she live forever.

This issue is how to prevent its destruction again. That was no accident.

I was there 2019 during my visit to France 🇫🇷 and visited in 2023. Lots of good work was done already. Definitely will be there in December 2024.
  • Imagine the patience, spanning centuries , the builders had to erect this gorgeous edifice. Incredible !

Happy for France that Notre Dame have been fully restored to its former glory! 🇫🇷🇬🇧🗺️
  • @dkod19
Quite disappointed in this so-called 'update.' It's basically a recap of everything we knew already. We're already in 2024, so a real update would have included whether they expect to make that target of the end of 2024.

Paris is a most beautiful iconic city and this particular Church holds a special place in my heart towards Heaven. God’s hand took a place in the restoration of a great Lady Notre Dame. God was and is great to let France 🇫🇷 rebuild for our pleasure. Thank you God.🇺🇸🌹✝️🙏🌹

Very interesting video! Thank you for posting it!😊
  • @TsarHare
no scares of fire. purely perfect.
  • I read that a lot of the laser scans were done for a video game before the fire.

The craftsmanship of the laborers may be more worthy of praise than the crafty conniving of the aristocracy and religious hierarchy. Nevertheless, an impressive building and better money on that than the instruments of war and destruction?

Without the financial support from around the world, it would have been very difficult to complete this restoration so quickly. The French people are deeply grateful to foreigners of any culture or religion who participated in this act of generosity according to their means.

Very impressive how the French have brilliantly pursued the reconstruction of their iconic cathedral.
  • Phil Spencer is a huge fan of the 15th century cathedral of notre dame that made the best appearance in the Disney movie the hunchback of notre dame from 1996.
