Qld govt ‘didn’t have an appetite’ for a new stadium for 2032 Olympics

Former Brisbane mayor Graham Quirk says the Queensland Miles government “didn’t have an appetite” for a new stadium and “were looking for a plan b” for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

A federal inquiry has found the Queensland government is yet to begin tangible preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

It heard the Miles government had begun a ‘shadow review’ before former lord mayor Graham Quirk had finalised a 60-day venue review the premier asked him to lead.

Mr Quirk told the hearing he had been ‘blindsided’ by the move.

“We were advised that government didn’t have a new appetite for a new stadium, and they then obviously were looking for plan b.

“They knew we were going to be recommending a new stadium,” Mr Quirk told Sky News Australia.

“The panel was unanimous in terms of that view.”

Spending more money than Australia has for people to run around and jump and swim for fun/sports seems like a dumb plan why not use everything we have and actually make something from the Olympics for once instead of blowing it????

Once in a lifetime yes, but only to be used once! There are far more important things to consider. Cost of living, cost of rentals and no rentals and homeless. Go for a drive around Caboolture and Redcliffe shoreline and see the tents for yourself. We don’t need a new damn stadium.

It was always about Piloshit and her vanity projects. She thought she would " reign" for decades.

Just have an Olympic in Brisbane without spending too much money. We can use the existing facilities to host the games. And, Brisbane will become an Olympic city. What’s wrong with that? Many Olympic cities went bankrupt because they got over excited and over spent money 😮

Need more Indians come to Brisbane help set up Olympics. Far more hardworking than bogan Aussies. Put up new stadium in two weeks while Aussie sit on milk crate and drink beer!
