Hundreds of Birds ‘Free Fall’ Out of the Sky

It’s a perfectly calm moment in Mexico, when suddenly, something mysterious falls from the sky! It’s a flock of black birds swirling to the ground, and it’s absolutely stunning. Hundreds and hundreds of the birds appear like a plume of black smoke. Within seconds, many of them fly off, but a considerable number are killed upon impact, left scattered on the ground. While it looks like they’re just free falling, Miami Zoo’s Ron Magill says that they were actually on the run from a predator.

Could you imagine having been walking on that exact sidewalk at that exact moment? 😭😭😭😭

There's NO way ALL those birds were THAT freaked out by a hawk or a predator, it had to have been something else.

"You can see some of them died by the impact." 5 seconds later: "its pretty amazing!"☠️

"Whatever the cause, it's pretty amazing" We lost hundreds that day Jim.

The footage is insane. It’s hard to believe what I just saw. Would birds fly into the ground to avoid a predator?

Birds like this have been attacked by predators before and yet have never done this. This is mostly definitely something else

“its pretty amazing” THERE’S DEAD BODIES EVERYWHERE
  • They don't fly individually, they fly in a collectively guided manner. If many of them decide to fly down and up to avoid a predator, the entire group will replicate the movement, even if there isn't enough altitude for everyone to do the maneuver.
  • I don't believe I would have said "pretty amazing" knowing dozens or even a hundred of birds that died on impact.

Something caused every single bird to fall from the sky simultaneously. It’s like something you’ve seen out of a movie.

Have seen huge flocks of birds all my life. Was a bird watcher many years. Birds have been navigating skies, winds, weather changes, predators forever. Planes can be a problems for some. But, this is not a normal occurrence.

Imagine this happening on some random person and they just mysteriously vanish when all the birds clear out.
  • It looks like they got hit by a downburst or something with the amount of force some of them hit the ground. You can see some dust kick up too, and the immediately fly back up. I don’t think if they were escaping a predator they’d all immediately go back the same direction

I don't think a predator, or even a massive group of predators could cause something that drastic
  • @Maybe.Its_You
I wouldn’t describe it as pretty amazing, I would describe it as pretty sad. It’s crazy how it happened for sure though
  • Birds: accidentally kill themselves trying to escape a predator News Anchor: Pretty amazing! 😍😍
