“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

People were obsessing over the scientific inaccuracy of a black mermaid but not of talking birds, crabs and fish. Humans are disgusting.

I get chills every time I hear Halle sings, then my eyes start watering. Saw this movie yesterday and I was so happy to watch this. Everyone did a fantastic job in this film.

I’m so excited to see this movie. The Little Mermaid is a movie that should’ve been live-action a long time ago. Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs are going to be so freaking hilarious.

Role of a lifetime. Not only does her voice have that timeless 'Disney Princess' sound, but she is exquisite; her beauty inside and out is breathtaking. It's also interesting that the classic tale is about people from seemingly different worlds finding commonality through love and doing what it takes to achieve the harmony they desire, and this movie faced backlash over the race of the principal character. I don't know how anyone could see this and deny that Halle IS Ariel, quite literally in daring to step outside of social expectation and defy ignorance, going after her dreams and in turn inspiring others to do the same. What a time to be alive.

I was sceptical because I see both sides of the argument. I’d rather see an original African inspired story instead of a remake but I also don’t see any problem with Ariel being a different ethnicity. I like that all her sisters are different and represent the seven seas.
