Title: Ventura Highway
Artist: America
Album: Homecoming
Year: 1972

Lyrics:

Chewin' on a piece of grass
Walkin' down the road
Tell me, how long you gonna stay here Joe?
Some people say
This town don't look good in snow
You don't care, I know

Ventura highway in the sunshine
Where the days are longer
The nights are stronger than moonshine
You're gonna go
I know, oh wo, oh wo oh wo, oh wo, oh wo oh wo

'Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
And the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air in the air
In the air
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do

Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do

Wishin' on a fallin' star
Waitin' for the early train
Sorry boy, but I've been hit by purple rain
Aw, come on Joe
You can always change your name
Thanks a lot son, just the same

Ventura highway in the sunshine
Where the days are longer
The nights are stronger than moonshine
You're gonna go
I know, oh wo, oh wo oh wo, oh wo, oh wo oh wo

'Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
And the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air in the air
In the air
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do

Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do

Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do

Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do
Do do do, do do do do, do do do, do do do do

  • My dad passed away by suicide in June of 2021..the day after father's day. He was raised in the 70s, looked like a country hippie, and loves these music. Now, whenever this song comes on, I know my dad's in peace and venturing around the highway in Ventura. Perhaps driving a classic car. He's free from pain and these music makes me think of him and gives me some healing of good things and memories.
  • Laid back good old days. When nobody really cares about social media status and just living their best life. What happen to us?

1973, summer. Relationship just ended, decided to drive the California/Oregon/ Washinton coast alone from San Diego to the Canadian border. This is one of the songs I'd play with nowhere to be and in no hurry to get there. met a lot of people out there just like me. The goal was the journey, not the destination. Still is to this day, now 70.

This is one of my favorite songs ever. I heard it in the eighties, I thought it was a song of freedom and it gave me that feeling allways.

Cette chanson représente la liberté, quand j’écoute cette chanson, je m’imagine en Californie dans une décapotable en train de rouler au bord de la mer et c’est juste trop le bonheur
