Just how big and heavy is ‘too big and heavy’ for a family 4x4? Our American cousins usually like to supersize things, but the new all-electric Cadillac Escalade IQ takes things to a new and terrifying level.

Based on a stretched version of the double-decker battery carrying platform from under the Hummer EV, it’s a luxury SUV with 24-inch wheels, two cargo bays, up to eight seats, over fifty inches of screen, and good for a claimed 400 miles of range. And it weighs over four tonnes.

Is this the point where even the American public start to admit that enough is enough when it comes to SUV bloat, or is it merely the four-wheeled epitome of the American Dream?

Top Gear’s Ollie Kew has been for a closer look…

So, what are your thoughts on the Escalade IQ?
  • @ProjectCovenant
“How does the height affect safety?” “Well u can load ur groceries” lmao what?.??
  • @hoodiekemo
Man's was dodging the safety questions so hard.
  • @ghost21501
The European mind can not comprehend the Escalade.
  • @amrith57
Bro asked if the bonnet is to high for a crash and the exec reply’s its easy for the owners to put the groceries in
  • @TheZebJohnson
The amount of excess energy required to lug so much mass along with (typically) one person to go about their day is insane!
  • @kc510
I think most people in the USA see one of these and don’t think twice. Wait until you see a heavy duty pick up truck.
  • @danielpark9126
This has a target market, and it is certainly not Europe
  • @ZeeBri
This is what we're gonna save the planet with boys 🙌
  • @xdoctorblindx
I suspect this is the last time that GM invites a Top Gear host to review a new vehicle without vedting the questions first lol.

House real Big, Wheels real Big, Crew's real big, everything real big
  • @2chickenmama
Fair play to Ollie for being straight up about the safety issues, looks like he didn't get an answer for it at all sadly

we dont need small personal bubbles, we need large personal rectangles.

Being a pedestrian in the States is an accident in itself. And I suspect that this "car" is classified as a truck. So no one cares about safety standards.
  • @VladiDusil
Any smaller car involved in a collision, or even worse, a pedestrian getting hit by this monster are going to be toast. The Caddilac dude was dodging Ollie's concerns like Neo in the matrix dodging bullets.
  • @saagnikpaul
Of late, Top Gear feels like a show for the manufacturers to come and advertise their products. This makes me miss the old show so much more.
  • @markbigbadbear
So, the pedestrian safety feature is that if you hit someone, you've got a low threshold to lift the body into the frunk and scoot off into the woods to bury the body? Alrighty then.
