After leaving the cinema watching Dune 2 with the boys, there sat a little mouse on the floor and one of the boys called "it's the mouse from Dune", then I said "it's Muad'Dib" and suddenly everyone shouted "Muad'Dib", pointing at the mouse. Ten grown up men pointing at a little mouse, I'm sad that nobody took a picture of this exquisite meme template.

This really does capture how Paul felt in the book. He gains a hightened awareness from the spice and sees all the possibilities springing forth from his present actions and collapsing as he makes a choice. One of the things the new film doesn't quite do justice are the characters' complex inner thoughts. The '80s film had hokey voiceover, but Timmy does a good job of showing his character's inner journey.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I had a Mead spiral notebook full of quotes from the Dune books as a newly minted teenager. I thought the quotes at the beginning of the chapters we're the peak of philosophy and would guide me through life. They were pretty nice. For example "Parting with friends is a sadness. A place is only a place." So deep.

The string up the nose is inspired!! I nearly lost it when I realized what it was because, from just seeing the picture of the video ad, I thought "where did he get a Dune costume like that?" I think this is your best work and look forward to more.
