Lyrics:

Woohoohoo
Woohoohoo

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright since

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

It's weird listening to a song from the early 2000s about nostalgia for the 80s, in 2021 to feel nostalgia for the early 2000s...

I just read that if this song came out in 2024 with the same structure, it would be reminiscing about 2005. I feel old at 40.

This happens to everyone. My Dad was born in 1933 and his music was the big bands and swing of the 40s and 50s. He passed away in 2020 and that was still “his music.” Of course he listened to music of later eras, but everyone is always nostalgic and has a preference for the music of their youth, when life was still carefree.
  • You guys, it is happening. We have finally reached the age where we have people talking about how they wish they were born in our era to experience our music... That's pretty sobering

Me in 2009: "Ha, she got old" Me in 2020: "I hate time, make it stop. When did Green Day become classic rock?"

Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the effort they put into both the costumes/sets, and the moves?! 5-star!

Fun fact : The guy who walks past at 1:00 is Mitch Allan the lead singer of SR-71, the band who originally wrote this song :)
  • This song was composed in 2003, 18 years ago. Which means it's the same difference between the writing of the song to today and to 1985.

How is a song from 2004 about being nostalgic about 1985 now suddenly super nostalgic

Debby’s house was a good friend of mine’s growing up. We got to watch them film the music video. Those toys on the lawn are my friend’s actual toys in the garage they used, I used to play with those 😂 and the flowers on the house and the trees are fake, they’re props they stuck up there. My mom had a conversation with Debby’s actor. I got their autographs. The band was high as a kite when I met them lol I sat on the right side of the stage during the last garage scene they filmed, I was just out of camera shot with my friends.

Christ, this hits hard nearly forty years on from 1985. Time is relentless.
  • @ankgu
Can't believe a year was named after this
  • @mrfantastic407
That line ("When did Mötley Crüe become classic rock?") hits freaking hard.
  • @dertionoss
It's crazy when we realize that this song (2004) be more closer to the actual 1985, instead of us in 2024.

I’m a teenager, and I have a really good relationship with my dad, he introduced me to this song when I was very young, it reminds him of his own childhood, his music is still stuck in the eighties so I grew up with this and so many old bands, I love listening to this song when I’m away from him, definitely still one of my faves
  • @crashburn3292
"When did Motley Crew become classic rock?" And now, Bowling for Soup is classic rock....
  • @bearsigagmd

"She hates time, make it stop." Me, 2005: "Haha poor lady," Me, 2024: "I HATE TIME, MAKE IT STOP!! 😟😭"
