Visiting the Alamo San Antonio, Texas

Do you have a question about visiting the Alamo? If I didn't answer it in this video, please leave a comment below and I'll try to answer it!

The Alamo is a symbol of Texas freedom and independence, but it's also part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, as it was first constructed as a Spanish Mission.

The Alamo is currently undergoing major renovations, and they have just opened a new collections center which is a state of the art, 2 story, exhibit center. There is an additional charge to visit this space, but the church, the long barrack, and the Alamo grounds can be visited for free. The guides at the Alamo are a wealth of information, so if you are interested in a guided tour to get a better understanding of the history and stories from the property, you can get a 30 min guided tour for $45 which includes admission to the newly constructed Ralston Collections Center. If you are visiting the Alamo and you just have questions, be sure and ask the guides around the property, they love to share their knowledge with you!

There is no parking at the Alamo and parking is at a premium in downtown San Antonio. You will need to look for downtown parking options, the Crocket Parking Garage is nearby and reasonably priced.

  • I would love to visit there one day, and I also recently learned while researching about my family history, that I’m descended from the Millsaps family, and that one of my family’s cousins Isaac Millsaps was one of the defenders of The Alamo.

Been there, done that and had the privilege in 1975 when I was in USAF Basic Training at Lackland AFB. What amazed me the most was that it was history that was right in the middle of the city. It is difficult to imagine the Alamo as it was, isolated on the hills, with the Mexican Army surrounding it. My brother has made San Antonio his home for the past forty years.
  • Having heard Alamo mentioned in numerous TV/Films, it is good to finally learn what it stood for!

Well, golly! Looking a bit different from the last times I've been there with all that construction fencing up. 😊Crazy to think that so many people think of the Alamo as just that one building but it was really so large and so many things are now built on top of what once was grounds. Like Ripley's. 😂

Thanks for the informative tour of the Alamo. We visited the Alamo a year ago and love San Antonio and Texas. 👍🙂

Must do. MUST DO. $15 for 4 hours? Not bad to park near the Alamo. $45 for a 30 minute tour? Not worth it. Will gladly take the free way. Phil Collins! NICE! Darn...no doggies with rare exception. "Alamo's closing...we gotta get outta here!" Awwwww... Now "In The Air Tonight" is in my head. Thanks!
  • Imagine how different the outcome would have been if Daniel Boones 500 kentucky long rifles had been there.

The Alamo is on our bucket list. We really want to check it out. We may wait til 2026 though so the construction and archaeological dig will be over. Thanks for sharing this informational tour. You didn't make it to the Alamo's basement? (I know the Alamo doesn't have a basement. It is a movie reference you may or may not get.) Anyway, enjoyed this video!
  • "a lady and her baby" ??? "probably searching for protection"??? One of the most important figures of the Alamo and you did not even give her a mention...wow.
