A BBC investigation suggests more than 50,000 Russian soldiers have died in the war in Ukraine. Researchers from the BBC and the independent Russian website Mediazona studied burial sites and other evidence. The Kremlin does not disclose official figures.

The war also continues to claim many Ukrainian lives. The latest Russian missile strike has killed 17 people and injured at least 70 more.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky called on his country’s allies to offer the same support as they have shown to Israel. A $49 billion proposed new aid package is due to be voted on in Washington in the coming days.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by James Waterhouse and Olga Ivshina.

Last year you said 300,000 dead Russian soldiers. Lmao.
  • Whatever the figures, it is a shocking waste of [mainly] men's lives on both sides.
  • @ChrisTian-lf2oh
Love that people STILL dont know the difference between CASUALTIES and DEATHS in war.....
  • @erk489
No way it’s 50 thousand. This seems like a massive down play
  • @harryhill-es5jk
If 50 thousand Russia soldiers have died Why doesn’t the bbc tell us how many Ukraine soldiers have died
  • @chrislong3938
Wait a minute, every other source claims well over 450,000 casualties on the Russian side with almost half of them KIA! How could everyone else be so wrong?!?
  • That’s wild, over twice the amount of Soviet soldiers that died in Afghanistan over 10 years
  • @100M2B
Only 50,000? BBC has been sold to Russia?
  • @titteryenot4524
Imagine going to fight for someone you don’t like against someone you don’t hate.
  • Ukraine got the aid. Ukraine is Russia’s Vietnam. It’s so hard for these poor people. The Ukrainians have suffered tremendously
  • @_.YouTubeBad_.
Too many idiots in this comment section, the 50,000 figure is just how many were fully confirmed to have died in Ukraine, the actual death toll is likely much higher with a ton of casualties too.

Way lower than the MSM told us. Wasn't it supposed to be above 500,000 or even million? 😢
  • Whenever you see a BBC story you can guarantee the comments will be filled with [1] bots (they hate free press stories), [2] people who didn't watch or comprehend what was in the video, and [3] 'whatabouters' who ignore what the subject matter is and try to change it to another subject. When will I learn not to scroll down? 🙄
