So it's not the usual music you'll hear on Chris' infamous Lifted Music Show. But none the less, this is a history lesson of a different genre of Dance Music.

"I couldn't find any decent mixes of this era of Garage. Only the ultra cheesy commercial pop music that was about around the millennium. The tracks in this mix were the basis for that explosion of Craig David, So Solid, Artful Dodger etc. This is part of my history in dance music, that I will treasure forever - it's dedicated to those that were there at the time, yet I hope some people just getting into dance music and hearing these tracks for the first time can understand and appreciate the feel good emotion it brings, and reasoning why."

Props to all the copyright owners for letting us use the tunes...

Bro the UK scene has been fuckin mint since the 80s. Every prime house/techno cut I find at the record store has a UK address on the sleeve. I get mad jealous, but at least we got a solid scene out here in Chicago. This summer tho, I'm making the pilgrimage and basking in all the house/techno excellence that Europe has to offer. Can't fucking wait

Its 3.45 am i am in Doha Qatar corniche dancing to garage wearing Arabic traditional dress and ppl think i have lost my mind this music still rocks after 20 years
  • I was born in 1980 and I often think how lucky I was to have witnessed the music of the 90’s. The house, garage, hip hop and drum and bass scene really were on point. #timeless

I'm now 42 born in 81, started buying house and garage vinyl at 15 years.. these tunes are my childhood so many amazing memories and goosebumps everytime, spent all my spare change at record shops (when record shops were proper) still mixing them today! Nothing compares to growing up in essex during the 90's, warehouse, bagleys, chans and the country club.. This mix is EVERYTHING.. Thank you for a trip down memory lane, excellent example of one of the best garage mixes I've heard for a long! Respect and love to all the UKG family🙏
  • @WAKE-UP-BRITAIN

Im currently 15, i didnt exactly grow up with this music but finding out about 90s electronic thru some 90s video ganes i found on an internet archive, and then i began digging into some of the origins of dubstep. Thats when i found UK garage, thru the likes of El-B and Horsepower Productions. It was an aquired taste for me, but it began to grow on me and it felt really great. After listening to this genre for a few years, my soccer obsessed brother showed me a mainstream song that somehow blew my mind. I dont often listen to mainstream music, but "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris struck a chord with me, just because it brought back that oldschool UK garage style. I feel so lucky to have the interenet with me, I get to see and hear so many obscure things that would have been so much harder to find without it. Just an FYI to yall boomers, none of yalls culture will ever die 🤘

Oh yes.... I was 29 clubbing in London, dancing all night. Smiley e's, superman's and the rest.... Good Times. I still come up on one
  • @kevinlewis3029
I was 19 in 1997, this brings back all the memories. It was a great time to be young but you don't realise it at the time, it wasn't all sunshine and roses this was the year I had a deep depression and was on Prozac, but I came out the other side and have a good life now.
  • If your listening to this in 2023...kudos to your taste in music..10 outta 10👍👏
  • @MyRotaryLife
I consider myself very lucky to have been 17 and hitting the clubs to these tunes in the UK. I was also lucky enough to grow up in Sheffield, home of Niche, Capitol / Club Zero / Republic. I was also lucky enough to be part of the Ayia Napa / Faliraki scene as well in the late 90's and early 2000's. I don't think I will ever out grow Speed Garage, UK Garage and bassline. I'm 33 now and still can't help but dance to this. All you younger peeps feeling this music restores my faith....
  • Just realised how lucky our parents were to go to 90s garage and house raves and go mad to these tunes
  • This is what UK garage was about, before it got commercialised. Loving the mix and blend here. Tunes tunes tunes Xxx
  • @ksingh4528
