Australia's gambling game Two-Up is 'like a religion' in remote outback town | ABC Australia

Published 2023-08-28
2023 marks the 40th anniversary since Western Australia legalised the gambling game of Two-Up at Kalgoorlie’s famous bush school.

Its popularity among miners dates back to the 1890s gold rush.

While games are no longer played every day, the pennies are still tossed every Sunday in the remote mining town of Kalgoorlie.

  • My grandfather who died when my dad was 14 was a SP book maker and ran a two up ring on the farm near footscray in the 1940's. Dad said he and his brothers and friends got paid to be the gala's and sound the alarm when a group of police turned up. Dad said there would be hundred or more running in all directions.
