Total waste of time and not easy at all. The battery part was nonsense, too (only dulled the edge, didn't refine it at all).
  • Not only will this clog up your stone, the water will cause the wood to swell lifting the edge of the chisel off of the stone.
  • Every chisel and plane iron should have two angles on the cutting edge unless I have been doing it wrong for 60 years as a joiner
  • Honing guide, wet stone, then leather strop and paste. Wood + water not a good combination.

I thought everyone knew about the two bevels on a chisel??? I knew it in shop class in 1964 and it has worked excellently for me since then through hundreds of chisels of various sizes......

I carry a battery on me at all times to sharpen my knifes 😂

You don't need to use a battery to strop the chisel. Get a old leather belt and lay it on it's face. Then add the toothpaste or cleanser with water to the leather and pull the chisel edge across the leather. It looks like there is a double bevel on the chisel: an angled edge on both sides. While this is okay for rough work, it means more work being done for accurate use, compensating for the chisel wanting to move upward in the cut. The bottom of the chisel needs to be absolutely flat, hopefully with a little hollow area about 1cm from the tip.

Any intersection of two planes along its longitudinal dimension will produce the same result: a sharp edge.

Just get a Veritas or Eclipse sharpening jig. Job done.
  • The longer the video, the more $ the guy makes doesn't work for free

Load of crap. Never seen a carpenter or a joiner using a battery or toothpaste sharpening a chisel.
  • @fueyou
With all that time, you could have learned how to sharpen freehand.
  • Your Videos Encourage Me To Develop Myself, Thank You For That👍👍👍🥳

I don't really understand using the battery that way. Maybe explain in the video what you're doing and why you've chosen to do it this way. I'm assuming you're using it as a type of stropping device but I don't understand why you chose a battery other than it's soft metal. And I didn't understand why you rubbed toothpaste all over the chisel. I think I understand that you're using it as a stropping paste but not sure why you wiped it over the whole tool and brushed it. Just to clean the rest of the tool or ???? 🤔

You are not sharpening the chisel. You are honing the chisel. You should know better.
  • I thought it said the easy way , surely the easy way is to buy one of them little sharpening clamps for about £5
