I just love having wood crates with wood blocks and toys in them. When we play with our kids and build castles and super hero hide-outs the crates become part of the action! Also, lets not forget that wood based products can be repaired. If ever you get a crack or an unsightly mark on them, you can actually do something about it. Just try that with a plastic bin. One crack and it is done and off to a landfill.

I have recently stopped buying plastic storage bins, which I love and have a lot of because with a lot of kids you need to organize. But recently, my eyes have opened to the dangers of offgassing and now I look around my house and cringe and open windows very frequently, even in the winter. Thank you for this, as I am in the middle of my “out with the toxic and In with the less toxic” rampage and finding it very difficult to find affordable options. One thing I worry about with a lot of the wooden products is wondering if and what they were treated with. Michael’s craft store has wooden crate boxes which are great for organizing. I do wonder if they’ve been treated with anything but they look like all wood. With a 20% off coupon you can get them for 10 or $11 and they’re fairly big. Thanks for this! Looking forward to more.

Great tip on the wine store boxes! Definitely going to try that out, I have a vintage one I bought at a flea market ($20!) Goodwill‘s home department is definitely underrated as well.

Many companies like Ikea and The Container Store sell bamboo storage options that look great!
  • Try kilner containers to replace the pyrex, they have glass lids and rubber seals, the glass is oven and freezer proof! Or try IKEA containers with the bamboo lids!
