So Ron's Gone Wrong came out today in the US! But what's more interesting to me is that the team BEHIND it is actually somebody entirely new! We know Pixar, DreamWorks, Sony.. Illumination. But this is a blank canvas! And it's been a year since Blue Skies Studios went down so perhaps there's a connection there? Judging by just this first introducing movie, what do we think of the new Locksmith Animation as a whole? Are they the next Pixar? The worst of Illumination? Or just easily influenced like DreamWorks or Sony? Who made Ron's Gone Wrong? And what is their history? Come find out with me as we review Ron, investigate the crew, and predict the future of Locksmith Animation Studios!

These are the type of animated films I want more of, where its audience isn't treated idiotically, and can entertain both children and adults.

Shakespeare's first play is despised even by people who enjoy Shakespeare
  • @dcbandit
Being better than Monster House is high praise to me. I love that movie. The weird offputting animation just works with the horror and story.
  • @ShortHax
They really should consider doing a sequel to Big Hero 6
  • I haven't see the film yet, but I hope new Futurelock won't go on the same path as other studios like Illumination or Blue Sky Studios. Good luck, Futurelock Animation Studio, we're counting on ya' for the next project.

R.I.P. Blue Sky, the majority of their films were really good. One that really stood out to me was Rio. We don't get a lot of movies about birds. Edit: plenty of people are saying stuff like “go watch happy feet” or something, just saying there aren’t a lot of movies about birds, especially if you compare it to the amount of movies about mammals there really isn’t enough. Reptiles and fish suffer the same fate. Also a lot of movies about birds are inaccurate or bad/meh/not rewatchable like happy feet and the angry birds movie 2 (ok I’ll admit it I liked the angry birds movie, people call it terrible but it is a decent film. In the 2nd movie Red falls in love with silver who is a different species of bird, also it is angry birds not love birds! Edit: that was a really long edit

I highly hope that these guys get to make good movies. I haven't seen a good animated movie in a while already. And Ron's gone wrong actually looks quite promising.
  • @NathanSpies
Haven't seen the movie yet, not sure how good it is. The animation actually looks pretty good!
  • @JamifyAzure
I seriously hope this company doesn't get bought out by Disney, there's a lot of promise here.
  • Ngl I already hoped this film would do well when I first saw the trainer, but I never even knew it was by a (technically) new studio, I quite literally thought it was a dreamworks film, now I just really want this thing to do pretty well even more
  • @MovieFan1912
Knowing that Locksmith Animation is staffed by people who worked with Aardman, I hope they can do well in the future. Especially since Aardman themselves are moving their projects to Netflix nowadays.
  • I actually would be more excited to see more 2D animation studio being formed like SPA studio (Klaus) and Cartoon Saloon (Wolfwalkers, Secret of Kells). We got too many CG animation studio nowadays.
  • @pinksamm
It looks good the only complaint I have is the ears of the main character they just drag my attention away XD but I know it’s a style
  • @Lucky_9705
This film was a lot better than I expected. It’s based off of a pretty cliche tech concept, but the creativity and ambition involved more than makes up for it.

I'm so glad to see you cover Ron's Gone Wrong and the amazing people behind it!
  • Watched this movie with my 5 year old brother and my mother. I'm 17. The three of us enjoyed it in our own ways. I really appreciated the asthma part, it got my attention, not something I commonly see representated and it feels nicely done to me. We didn't walk out of the theater marvelled, but we walked out happy, and that's good enough for me :)
  • Ron's Gone Wrong is one of those movies I was super skeptical about. The animation in the beginning and me worried (simply due to the art style being similar to others that were milked dry), but it was surprisingly relatable. I'm 20, so past middle school, but I think there's a lot of realism to this movie that I can relate to. The popular girl who acts nice to appear nice but is really just mean, the prankster guy who doesn't understand he isn't as funny as he thinks he is, ext. It's very nice, and I'm happy to hear the word "hell" in a kids movie again
  • I thought of Next Gen, a movie before Mitchell's. I've never seen this movie but it seems ok so far
