As a vietnamese i can confirm that it is true but the reason your head touches the roof on the bus is because you are way to tall, us vietnamese are quite short.

Burning incense paper is quite common practice in many Asian countries

That “fake money” is more like “afterlife money”. It’s a common tradition in china as well where you burn money during somebody’s funeral or anniversary. It also extends to other things like “fake cars” or “fake houses”. You also burn incense sticks to send across any message or wishes that you may have. Its also common to place a warm meal near the grave for the person to eat in the afterlife.

Fun fact: The reason the boats are bowl shaped is because the tax on importing bowls is lower than the tax on importing boats, so they just made them bowl shaped to classify them as bowls 😂

Vietnam is a gorgeous country with an extremely welcoming populace from what I’ve seen. Even after all the hardship they’ve been through, they’re still extremely friendly and open to foreigners.

Just a minor thing: I don’t think everyone offer the gods wine. In south of Vietnam where i live it is only 3 cups and mostly tea. Guess gods around here is more health focus. 😅 At least as far as I concern most of the places I been visit so far that is how it goes.

Fun fact: after the Vietnam War, they kept the guns left behind. There’s about 1 million M16s in storage, and they actually modified a lot of them.

thats not the kitchen god, thats the god of the land. and the kitchen god you spoke about is technically the stove god who protects againts kitchen fires.

Fun fact : you can actually tilt the back rest if the seat so you can sit up when you don't want to sleep. But the mechanism might be broken on some seats.
