Dehydrating Food + Recipes for hiking and adventures.

Published 2021-10-14
Hey guys

This week's video is all about the food preparation that Stephy made for our recent long distance hike on the Bibbulmun track.

Using a food dehydrator Stephy spent weeks preparing the food and working out the logistics for up to 40 days of hiking.

We hope this video gives you some good ideas for your own adventures whether it's a hiking trip or even a camping trip where you want to keep the weight down on gear.

If I went backpacking ๐ŸŽ’ with her and her friends, I could see news reports now . Backpacker gains 20 lbs on trail ? You know her friends love her ๐Ÿ’• She's a food genius. Thanks for sharing your awesome ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘

I have been dehydrating foods for camping and kayak touring for years, but you have given me some great ideas. Just in time for preparing for a 5 day bikepacking trip. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

Iโ€™ve watched a lot of videos for dehydrated food for backpackers but most of them are for specific meals that I would never eat or the production quality is very low. This video is by far the best Iโ€™ve come across for backpackers. Well done and thank you! Subscribed.

I think that was the most informative video on dehydration/rehydration that I have watched. Thank you!
  • Two words. Amazingly brilliant. This must have taken a great deal of time in research, sourcing, ordering, purchasing, cooking, drying, division, packing, sealing, planning meals for the trek, boxing and delivery. You need a medal! Well done Frenchy. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿฆ˜

Easily the best video Iโ€™ve seen on dehydrating. I keep buying prepackaged meals and I hate it. Iโ€™d love to follow your recipes. Do you have them published anywhere? Also, any idea how long your vacuum-sealed foods will last? Thanks for taking the time.

Stephy, I don't know about all this Hiking ,but your Food is super especially for old Coot like me, sure beats the hell out of the burnt offerings I get now from Dear old Mums cooking, ( mind you the poor old Buggar is 100 years old ) and still thinks she is Queen Bee. AU

Excellent! Fabulous recipes and it all looks like it worked great. A fair bit of prep work!

Nothing can beat a good homemade recipe when you're out in nature! It's indeed a lot of work, but it's well worth it. I've been using my Excalibur 9 trays for 2 years and I use it regularly. I love preparing my own meals for camping trips, hiking and even for storage at home. Always handy to have ready ingredients on hand. I store my ingredients in Mason jars, from which I have removed the air with a device designed for this purpose. Then I just have to take what I need to concoct a recipe. I seal the jars again for better conservation.
  • I am truly amazed by your almost pathologic talent, at some point, I assume, Leigh thought about turning himself into a Mummy. If my Grandma ever gets to watch this episode, she would approve your cooking abilities in a heart beat. From a very messy (not that Messi) person, this was a delight to watch. ยกยกPURA VIDA!!
  • This is the first dehydrator video I've seen with proper meals They look great . Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ‘‹
  • @NaomiMorrall
i've recently invested in a dehydrator due to my work having weird hours, no access to a fridge, and only having access to a kettle, this video was so helpful and informative <3

The spaghetti sauce blew my mind! โค thank you, and Iโ€™m on this for my family.
  • Excellent video. Iโ€™m too old and lazy for hiking and such but as a prepper these a great ideas of meals to have on hand. Great tip of using the tiny mylar bags for your oils, etc. I dehydrate my white rice and various types of pastas so if necessary it just hydrates without having to use fuel to cook, extra water to cook and then drain. All my veggies, pastas and rice hydrate well with cold water. I put my dried stuff in the cheap brown paper lunch bags to help with the sharp edges too before using the food saver bags.

So impressive. I am sure going to take some tips, do the prep and be ready for next hurricane season in Louisiana.
