The alarming red flag was that he was using the police database to get information. If it's just a fantasy, why does he need real-life information? If the women in question feel threatened and scared, is it just a fantasy? Waiting for someone to commit a horrific crime doesn't sound like justice.

Okay but imagine being one of the women he wrote about. Like I would be forever paranoid that he or one of his online buddies would end up acting on these fantasies. Those poor women, especially his wife, are probably so traumatized and scared and he’s just walking free.

Even if Gil never intended to act out his fantasies, some of the people he associated with online clearly did. By referencing his wife and other real people in their conversations, Gil recklessly endangered those close to him and should have at least done some time for that.

Dr. Deets was a red flag to me. When he said, “ he found it troubling… that people weren’t able to separate the two [Gil’s fantasies and his actions],” that sounded like a man who ALSO has dark desires that he’s hiding because he knows how others will react.

For me, it stops being fiction when you are stating you want to commit acts of violence against a real person. Then it becomes a threat. This case sets a scary precedent for what people can plan without consequence.

The scary part about this is he was giving real information to people he only knew online. Who's to say they wouldn't take it a step further and target those individuals? Those two guys were ready for the next step, who was next? This is a wild one.

It's mind-blowing his family was totally ok with him having these ''fantasies'' and that he should have not been convicted. I am not sure I would like to see my relative, who fantasizes about torturing and eating a person, just roam around as a free man.
