An all around well-performing electric bike, our Ride1UP 500 Series review shows it’s a value-priced comfort commuter that our testers were really happy with.

Our review of the 500 Series dives into how the bike handles, climbs hills, comes to a stop and how long you can ride it on a single charge, among other things. From former racers to weekend warriors, our team of testers were impressed with how well the bike performed no matter what we asked of it (within reason). It’s sporty yet comfortable; affordable yet well spec’d; and mellow yet fast.

We tested the high-step version of the 500 Series, but Ride1UP also offers it in a low-step version that has a slightly more relaxed geometry. There were some things we thought worth considering before buying the bike, which we get into in detail in the above review, but overall the 500 Series is a great buy.

For a more in depth look at the bike, check out our written review on ElectricBikeReport.com. Ride1UP is a direct-to-consumer company, so you can order the 500 Series from their website and have it shipped to your door. The 500 Series also comes in a step-thru variation and you can order one with stock fenders and a rear rack if you choose.

  • I now own my 500 series bike i have to say after 4 years and 4000 miles it has been fantastic and absolutely no problems except for changing new brakes and a couple of flat tires! I feel 1up is a great company!!!!
  • @SwitchItUp
Love how thorough this review was, so many other bike reviews don't hit all the main questions and concerns
  • I have one of these, the all-black version. Fantastic Bike, the max carry weight is listed lower than it actually is, but I wouldn't load it up past around 320lbs. Handles rain well, it's slightly heavy but not really noticeable when riding. Approaching 800 miles on mine so far.
  • My wife has the step thru with fenders and rear rack. Great bike. A rear light would be nice. she added a bell, water bottle holder, changed out the seat, and I vinyl wrapped it in "Metallic Ocean Teal" so it doesn't look like she's riding a German Army bike!! On the trails here in south western Pennsylvania, with pedal assist this thing really flattens the hills!!
  • Excellent review and I agree with everything you said. Thanks so much. I'm an avid cyclist riding 5,000 mi a year on road race bike and serious mountain biking. Bought the ride one up 500 about 8 months ago just as am urban bike. It's such a blast! Every time I get off of it I have a big smile on my face.

i have this bike.....got it august 2020...its a great bike...good value for the money...looks great too....my wife has an aventon level step through....she got it may 2021....another great bike...but more money....i would recommend the ride1up 500 to anyone....aventon is nice too...more money though.
  • The step thru is better for (much) shorter riders : 5'2'' and taller. The non-step thru is good for riders 5'5'' and taller.

Got the 500 a couple weeks ago.. over 200 miles on it. This is one really good bike, love it. It tackles hills really well, but I definitely have to put some energy into it for the steepest ones. But it will get you up any typical hill with ease. This is a quality, solid feeling ride, and it looks great to boot. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Great bike. I love it. I ride with 3 others that have 750 motors and it can keep up pretty well except for the big hill like the one in this review. I have no problem getting up it but definitely left in the dust compared to the 750 motor. With that being said, how often are you riding up a long steep hill? Highly recommend this bike. I have about 500 miles and the only issue I’ve had is that the throttle does not always work but it only seems to happen occasionally and for a couple minutes.
  • I have the baby brother model to the 500 which is the Core 5 and it is everything I could want in a bike and the company will be there for you if a problem should arise. I had a minor issue with my controller and once it was diagnosed while playing email tag I was sent a replacement quickly. The bike rides great under human only power also.
  • Can unlock to 9 levels of pedal assist. It gives the bike a better feel and more options to tackle the hills.
  • I have over 4000 miles riding the 500 i have so many tricks and loopholes on how to go faster
  • I've read some conflicting reports about the size of this bike. I love everything about it and I'm just about ready to pull the trigger and buy one but I'm not sure about the sizing. I'm 5'5 with a 29 inch inseam. Some people have said it's too big for them at the same height and others say it's fine. What do you think?
  • @ro1ou
Is it possible to unlock thru the settings a higher top speed in this bike?
  • @zyphoxx
Question, how tall is the man in the video? I would like to know for size reference. I'm 6'3" so i need a bike that's big enough.
