I've never in my life of keeping tarantulas experienced predatory mites! This is the first time I've ever witnessed them, and I'm really hoping they don't spread to the other enclosures!

I’ve kept tarantulas for over 20 years and it looks like you’ve lost the tarantula and haven’t check on it and it’s invited mites. Those these mites look like Acarus siro, which would have eaten off the mould, the reason why the roach hasn’t died is because they don’t drink haemolymph. They would have hitched a ride for better food. Since you’ve removed the source you’ll be fine, though each female can lay nearly 1000 eggs each, so that’s the reason why they explode in numbers. Had the same issue. Just wipe down the areas with bleach and keep and eye on it for a couple days and all will be fine. 👍🏼👍🏼

Steam cleaning gets rid of mites really well.
  • @PhantomWolf64
At 9:30 you can see a mite move and hide under the wood, so I think you need to clean that area very well, or maybe just give the entire room a deep cleaning as soon as possible.

These are dustmites, they breed a lot in poorly ventilated areas with higher humidity in the air... That means your T's room needs ventilation and if possible, sunlight for a period of the day. (Dustmites don't breed where the sun hits)
  • @clockworkornge
Maybe the Tarantula died first and the mites showed up to feed on it? That would mean what you saw was the mites leaving the enclosure to find another food source?
  • Clean that area as if it's stained by blood and the police is after you
  • @vermyfox8450
Those look like soil mites. Betting the ones on the roach are due to the high volume of them over predation, and they fed and bred off the (unfortunately) dead tarantula. Still a ton of them, and wouldn't hurt to clean the area. Also, if you have springtails, I'd toss some in all the nearby enclosures, especially humid ones, to keep them at bay.

tip: try and move your T’s to a temporary enclosure and do a deep ‘steam’ clean of their enclosures. get rid of the soil etc used in them if you can and rebuild as many as you can. if not then try and get plenty of ventilation in that room and ensure the room gets as much sunlight as possible, you can get temperature bulbs which might help (?)
  • Some good news on mites is that mite species are typically highly specialized and may only feed on one type of food or have one host species. So it is best to identify the mites because they could possibly be a species that feeds only on roaches.

10:50 the left wall is very dusty looking. The eggs look like dust.
  • @pjm5838
Try and install better ventilation for your T’s room, hopefully they clear up if you do that
  • @chloepom7665
Is it possible that these mites appeared because she died? I remember your video last year where mites had gotten to another one of yours. Regardless, its very strange that there's next to no body. How long had it been since you seen her?? Also I noticed a Web next to the enclosure, is it possible that she escaped?

I hope you have read your comments. People are saying that they can see mites in the wood on your shelves. They are saying that you need to do a deep clean with steam. I hope that you have read their comments and have begun to clean your enclosure room ASAP. I hope the situation is under control soon.

Omggg that’s so scary! I hope your T’s are okay <3 also my neighbours dog is the exact same. He just barks at anything he sees. your animal room is so cool too <3 idk how you manage all those tarantula's but it's amazing.
  • Omg, praying for you and your Tarantulas! I love you guys and I love your videos! 🕷️💜
  • @hmitsamy
between the expired mite spray, the fact you hadn't checked on the tarantula in months, and the mushroom spores, it's hard for me not to believe that we're looking at a period of neglect here
  • @yachanplays6778
12:09 Omg this white roache is so cute! 🥺 it's been years since I saw one! Also, I wish you good luck and that everything will be ok with your tarantulas collection
  • They look like the Grain mites that have infested my whole invert room. Every roach bin I have has them. I have been fighting this for months since the summer rains have hit and the humidity went up. They don't seem to be predatory, even though they are all over the roaches. Check your roach bins, I'm not sure what you feed your roaches besides fruit, but I found out that dog food and oat meal was the issue and was what brought the mites in.

I used to keep all kinds of reptiles before I got into Ts. I got these kind of mites in one agama enclosure. They only infested one enclosure and the area around it. I got some spray and a mite killer that was chunks of yellow stuff you put into a container and put holes into the lid and put it into enclosure after cleaning the enclosure thoroughly and sprayed everything down with the mite killer. I was lucky, and none of my other reptiles got them, even though I had shelving and two other enclosures on same shelf. I wish you the best of luck!
