  • The "Self crucified..." part refers to Odin and the tales about how he torn out one of his eyes and how he made a sacrifice to himself, by hanging for nine nights on Yggdrasil - the tree of life and a centre to the cosmos in norse mythology - in return for wisdom. So "missed the right tree" and "tore the wrong eye out" means somenthing like "I sacrificed myself, my time on this earth, my sanity, etc., I endured so much pain and suffered so much, but still failed do gain wisdom. I failed to learn what this all means". Also itchy fingers in polish means to be eager to do something. "The gods are bored with peace in our hearts" so their fingers are itchy, they are eager to mingle in them, to confuse us and stray us further from the answers we seek. "As if we never broke people out of sheer boredom" personifies the higher power, the gods. It just says that those "gods" - the symbol of higher cosmic power - act like people, who sometimes hurt other for trivial reasons, like f.ex. just for fun. After that, "gods" show no remorse and do it over again, not seeing fault in their own cruelty, making us - seeking for a meaning - more and more miserable .

Black Metal on this channel. Love it. They are Polish
  • @vicenteraira
Best band in the newest wave of Black Metal (imo). Completely awesome and breathtaking. Darkside makes a superb work in his kit, his dexterity with the cymbals is quite unique. The band's lyrics are also a peculiar point, mixing a mature nihilism with some metaphoric narrative "backgrounded" with Greek (and others) Mythology(ies). Monolithic riffs by mister M. complete the astonishing opus of these Poles. Long Life Mgła!

Guys, try exercises of futiliy V. Drumcam live at brutal assault 2019.
  • @robmarshall2872
Exercises in Futility V is really good too. Whole album is great. The genre of music they are is Black Metal.
  • Well, that's a surprise. Great band. Didn't expect to see them here tbh. lol I believe they are Polish black metal. Dissonance is a part of the sound of black metal so thats why sometimes seems off time and...weird. The music reflects the emotion. Tense, dark, other worldly sometimes. Other times incredibly serene. You'll hear the term "wall of sound" a lot with these bands and you can hear why.

Guys a little tidbit for you - "And their fingers are itchy" - this is actually from polish language. And it means "to be eager to do something". :)
  • @tomazzo8093
The thing is, black metal doesn't need rhymes! When you read or listen to Black Metal lyrics, it's more like an excerpt from a dark novel. The music creates the flow that the lyrics ride on ... that's it ...
  • @InsomniaQ
Hi guys! So it happens that I can give you some info about them. So Mgła is a black metal band from my country - Poland. Word "Mgła" itself mean "fog", and when it comes to the letter "ł/Ł" it is very characteristic, it's nowhere close to the letter "T". If you want to know how to pronounce it then use Google translate, choose Polish, paste word Mgła and listen ;) Cheers from Poland 🇵🇱

Mgła (pronounced mgwah) is a Polish black metal band. Their lyrics are about the struggle with the concept of nihilism- believing that nothing has any inherent meaning. This track is from the album Exercises in Futility, which has 6 songs, numbered from 1 to 6. I would recommend giving Exercises in Futility I a listen.
  • Black #@$%ing Metal. Cold, biting, hard, unforgiving, visceral, raw. And melodic, ethereal, and transcendental.
  • "Darkside" is the drummer. King of 16th note tripplets on the cymbals
  • @gringrin3979
I was looking forward to your reaction to this music. Now I don’t have to look forward to it anymore and can be thankful for a great reaction. The wall of sound in this song knocked me over the first time I heard it. Their musicianship is exemplary and their lyricism is superb, just a damn good band. Thank you both, I’ll drop a link with my next request. I didn’t with this one because I honestly wanted to see what you guys would choose; then I remembered, a lot of their live performances don’t include the intro 😬 it all worked out. Peace🙃
  • Definitely watch the live drum cam videos of theirs. Watching him play is unreal.
  • @QazwerDave
Black metal doesn't give a shit about rhyming, and neither do I. He sings at odd moments, and pauses. He says what he wants to say, whenever he wants to say it.
  • @spatnik4757
Your interpretation was right, the chorus refers to god Odin who gave his eye out in order to draw from well of wisdom to gain knowledge, but knowledge might bring fortune, but also can bring a destruction (i.e. atomic bomb)
  • @thecraftyfeline
Sounds a bit melodic black metal which I’m a huge fan of. Black metal isn’t always like “c***crusher style” it can be quite beautiful and atmospheric.
  • @AngelofSunday
These guys kill!!! Need to do more! Great react! The drum cam footage of exercises V is absolutely blazing!!!
