Saturn V Rocket Launch - ESTES Model Rocket Launch - Onboard Camera View

Welcome to another video guys :)

Onboard Camera View

In this video you will see my very first launch of a motored powered rocket. As you would, i was very nervous! 'Failure Is Not An Option'. Preparation and final checkout of the rocket was completed the day before launch.

The C6-3 rocket motors giving 10N/s of thrust was a bit of a challenge due to weight and balance. I added 2 payloads to the rocket for a physics project, an external camera to gather footage and to calculate the distance travelled from launch pad to landing site, the other was an internal altimeter for altitude achieved. Only one snag! i forgot to activate the GoPro to monitor close up the 2 volts sparks during ignition but i got that with the onboard camera.

Despite the added weight the rocket climbed to 107 feet 32.6 meters, half the altitude predicted on the C6-3. My next challenge one i've used the C6-3 rockets motors is to try the C6-5 motors for a higher altitude carry the payloads. Ejection of the parachute was very late to deploy as i mentioned before the rocket never reached it's predicted altitude.

Recovery was ~ 21 metres from launch site just 4 metres from landing on top of the portable cabin.

Overall this was a fantastic launch and fun also.

That is so cool! I dabbled in model rocketry in my teens; but I never got as sophisticated as you with this Saturn. My favourite launch was a Mosquito rocket with an A10-3T shoved in there. It flew forever; but I never found it again... 🙂 A great video!
  • That was cool! Thanks for sharing this Amazing launch with us, I hope you will be watching the sky on the 8th and you get some great pictures to share with us!
