The use of voice control is perfect! 👍 During reviews of the C40/XC40 the complaint is often that one needs to deep dive in all kind of menus via the screen. But seems that a lot of reviewers forgot the voice control option as part of the review. No deep diving into menus needed! Great job to show us!

always enjoy watching your updates. Thank you.

Thom, please consider maintaining an up-to-date list of Google Assistant's capabilities, organized by function (i.e., car controls, navigation, information requests, etc.) . That would be greatly appreciated by many Volvo owners.

You can also ask google assistant to find closest types of restaurants, etc. Hey Google, what are some Italian restaurants near me? It'll give a list. You can then tell it to guide you to whichever one. You can ask it to tell you what movies are playing locally or a specific movie you want to see. Hey Google- what time does Saw X play near me - It'll give you a list of times. Or if you have a specific theater just name the theater. Hey google, when is Dicks the Musical playing at Veterans 24? If you know where you're going but you want navigation on to give you an estimate of range or just track traffic and let it use shortest routes around problems, you can tell google to turn off voice navigation and then turn it back on again as well. Just a few other things I've found that are really useful.

Interesting video! Just... I had to put my phone in the kitchen wile watching. My Google went nuts every time you shouted "hey Google"

Heeey Thom, the voice command also works in dutch language in my S60 MY2024

Nice, thx Thom! 👍🏼 Wasn‘t aware about turning off OPD via voice! I have same setup, I prefer OPD and my wife hates it 😅 Will try if it works in German. One more voice tip: switch satellite view on/off

Thanks Tom for another interesting video. I didn't know yet that some spoken google instructions won't work when language setting is Dutch, unfortunately. Just got my MY24 XC40 couple of days ago. Before I experience it myself pretty soon, maybe someone already knows. I have a private phone which is Android. It is already connected to the car. I also have a work phone which is an iPhone, which I will cable-connect to the car for attending MS Teams meetings - something Android carplay is still missing. I do assume it will work via the car speakers etc. Now I wonder if my Android will still be connected to play music from my phone via bluetooth or if can still receive calls on that phone on car speaker, etc, when my iPhone is cable connected.

Great tips, thanks. Just picked up my MY24 XC 40 twin here in Australia and loving it. Do you know what the ‘Lock with reduced guard’ actually does on the app?

Thanks again Thom for this informative video. Do you know, if the voice control for OPD is going to be implemented by a software update in other languages than English?
  • @azmurph2913
Thanks for this. I’m researching cars and was curious how good this is in practice. Seems much better than Tesla. Is there a good source of apps available on Android Automotive? My understanding is that it’s more limited than Android Auto.
  • @leotim65

Hold door handle for a couple seconds to lock. Took me a few months to learn that trick. Only lock that way now.
  • @MarioCreemers
Thom, do you know where you can drop feature requests for the software? For example, I, can’t understand why my sunroof (XC40 recharge ultimate) doesn’t close automatically when parked when it rains. There is a rain sensor that detects rain……..
