The way Minecraft repairs itself is it checks the SHA256 hash of the JAR file and the hash in the "version.json" file right next to the JAR. If the hashes aren't the same, there's a link right next to the hash, where the launcher downloads the client from. Deleting the property makes it so the launcher cannot download the original version so you can mess with it as much as you can :)

Unplugging the internet to prevent Minecraft from running file checks and downloading the client again to repair itself, is like turning off the town's power so the bank's security systems don't come back on lol.

Unlike any other texture image that models’ materials use directly (and thus can be easily replaced with the fallback if it goes missing), colormaps are used by Minecraft’s shader which determines the pixel coordinates on the colormap to give blocks such as grass a different shade depending on the biome. It’s not directly used by the material of any model, and that’s why it has no fallback texture file… which crashes the game.

This is the equivalent of pulling out pieces of Minecraft's brain just to see what happens. And I am absolutely here for it.

It's not as hard to read as possible. Additionally, Mojang didn't do this to prevent reading, as they provide mappings to fix it. They do this to make the JAR smaller for non-technical audiences who won't be reading the code. Also it can decrease load times with such a big project, such as Minecraft.

4:46 i think those color files is for the grass and grass block textures to change from green to green/yellow when walking into a new biome. and every grass block and grass needs to change in a gradiant with some more complex code.
