Visiting Portage Lake I heard the coolest sound ever! The lake was freezing so fast it was singing. I have lived in alaska a long time but never experienced something like this. You can also hear the sound of the glacier cracking and the lake ice shifting. It was the strangest sound I have ever heard but one of the cooler sounds I've ever heard!

Many mention "singing glaciers". Few actually let us hear it. Thank you! Incredible

Almost spooky, the world is a wonderful place and thank you for shating your place. Cheers
  • I have often heard that sound in NH where I live on a lake. It's scary for those who hear it for the first time, especially if the crack (and sound) is traveling toward you. When you walk on ice, and before it's covered with snow for the season, you can see all the cracks from the ice's expansion. It is an added experience when you hear the cracking in person.
  • It is singing , I remember throwing stones on ice lodges to get that weird noise nothing like that, there's a good video of a guy ice skating and the ice cracking giving off cool noise
