In Newfoundland, at the easternmost tip of North America, the landscape is pristine, dramatic, and very sparsely populated. In summer, icebergs occasionally drift along the steep cliffs. When the "Titanic" collided with an iceberg and sank just 300 miles off the coast of Newfoundland in 1912, the last radio messages were picked up in a small wooden hut on the Avalon Peninsula.

Today, most Newfoundlanders live on Avalon. There are particularly many seabirds here. In Witless Bay, the newborn puffins are ready for their first descent into the Atlantic. But some stray onto the coastal road, attracted by the lights of the hotels and restaurants. In doing so, they run the risk of being run over. A team of volunteers saves the lives of countless young birds: The Puffin & Petrel Patrol goes out at night dressed in high-visibility vests to collect the puffins. Biologist Sabrina Wilhelm then brings them back to Green Island, home to the largest puffin colony in North America. Here, the birds catch up on what they should have done long ago: the first dive of their lives.

  • Did you guess? We’re In Newfoundland today. Kiss a dead codfish, 500,000 people in an area the size of Germany (83 million live in Germany - as a comparison) and Newfoundlanders love a good laugh. And there’s a Puffin Patrol. How can you not fall in love with this place? Anyone from Newfoundland out there? Anyone ever been? Let us know on the comments please thank you!

I love Newfoundland!! I moved to St. John’s in 2015. I’ve been working my butt off ever since to maintain a life here. My adult daughter eventually decided she wanted to build a future here with me too. My life finally feels complete! What a precious life🙂✨
  • Thanks to whoever made this documentary for showcasing our beloved province and the characters of the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who call this place home. We love visitors and will go above and beyond being kind to anyone needing help. If anyone is interested in another documentary search up "Come from away" it's a Broadway musical based around what happened on 9/11 when the town of gander and surrounding towns took in 3,000 people bound for the US. It's a very moving story, and shows the best part of the human spirit that can shine though the world may be mourning.

Newfies are my favorite Canadians! I was born in Jamaica and live in Toronto and all the Newfoundlanders I've met have been the BEST. We are so alike in many ways. I hope to visit soon. 🇯🇲🇨🇦

I moved away from NL two years ago after never leaving the island before. Once that lady said "I've seen beautiful places but nothing this this" Really hit me. I miss my home so much <3
  • I have lived here all my 57years and I never take any of it for granted! I tell my kids you live in the best place on earth so you should appreciate it every day. It is true that the weather is the most challenging but boy when we get a really nice day the feeling here is palpable. I have visited many places that have excellent weather and when you meet people on the street and say "what a nice day" they look at you kind of strange. So if you decide to live here don't let the weather dictate your plans too much. You have to embrace every day with a smile, humor and of course good clothes. Lol. Stop and smell the fresh salt air, fog, mist, drizzle, rain, snow, freezing rain, hail, ice pellets, graupel and lots of wind! Never a dull moment here. There are a couple of sayings here like "if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes, it will change" or "if you don't like the weather out the front door, check the back door!" The capital city of St. John's did have the distinction as the foggiest, windiest, rainiest and the snowiest in Canada. I don't know if that still holds true with climate change but we're right up there! Lol. Come visit you won't be disappointed. Better still come live here. You will really love it and embrace every scenic moment! I have to go now there is a whale in my backyard.
  • Newfoundlander here. I've lived and worked in just about every province in Canada. I have to be honest, once the plane landed on the island, and I stepped out into the fresh salty air, I finally felt home. ❤
  • My wife and I spent 2 fantastic weeks on "The Rock". Lots of history, beautiful scenery, and absolutely wonderful people. We'll be back for sure! Many thanks to all the locals - even the car rentals folks at the airport in St. John's - for making our time in Newfoundland so memorable. Al McCalder
  • Newfie here. After working in Ontario Canada, Cincinnati Ohio, Nashville Tennessee, Huntsville Alabama, and Juarez Mexico, for me Newfoundland tops the charts for beauty, friendly people, and uniqueness. We seemed to have kept more of the old Irish, English, Portuguese, French, dialect and culture. More Irish and English than the rest. In fact there are several different dialects in Newfoundland; you would think you’ve gone to another province. Worth the visit!!!
  • I moved to Newfoundland from Toronto over a month ago and I am loving it!
  • I miss my home province so much especially when I see such great documentaries such as this. Wonderful people and a wonderful province. I’m proud to call myself a Newfoundlander!
  • @jilllocke9985
