Great video, I thought you explained the misconception of Mini LED always being better than regular FALD TVs quite well, I saw this first hand when the QN90A and Q90T were placed next to each other the Q90T showed more detail and slightly more blooming but the QN90A crushed details to hide blooming and get closer to acting like an OLED in most scenes I thought the Q90T held up better because important details got lost on the QN90A. Also its more about the algorithm than the the amount of zones and you covered that very well.

If TV manufacturers were serious about producing LCD TVs that catch up with OLED displays, they would be implementing and improving the "Dual Cell" technology that Hisense introduced in 2021. In the Hisense U9DG Dual Cell TV, a 1080p black and white panel was placed behind the 4K RGB panel. This functionally provided the TV with over 2 MILLION "local dimming zones", and as the tests in the RTINGS review demonstrated, the results were spectacular. The Dual Cell TV nearly equaled OLED displays in Contrast, Black Uniformity, Blooming, and Wide Viewing Angle. The Dual Cell TV was discontinued (probably because it cost more than other Hisense models) but this LCD technology has the potential to be a highly competitive rival to OLED TVs.

Wow, Fomo!! Excellent video - I learned so much! You made it so easy to see and understand. Thank you!

I’m thinking about buying the Sony 65” x93L but I don’t want to wait until Black Friday. Do you think it’s going to be lower than the $1799 they have on sale for now?
  • This is the best short-form explanation of different screen types I’ve seen yet. In a world saturated with overly-verbose videos, I appreciate how precise you are in your choice of words!
  • @jayshine2742
U can get the same or similar black levels on the Sony if u don't mind losing a Little bit of detail like the TCL if u just set the local dimming to high because it default at medium
  • @ExecuteOrder66Jack
That starfield test is very revealing. Glad I made the switch to oled years ago and haven’t looked back
  • @truthseeker5079
Mini LED can tend to crush a lot of detail in favor of getting an inky image. Sony's approach is subtle. Sony isn't the brightest or blackest, but there's more information in the image, so the result is an image that stands out and has more depth.

@stopthefomo Will you be getting your hands on the Hisense UX as well?
  • @bungalowtomcat1
Total Love the Explaining in this and the Images are great,,,, What you show us,,,,,,,,,, Can you do more of this on TV'S
  • @robertweekes5783
It’s not just software — the Sony X90L’s are using their best processor, the same one used in the mini LED & OLED models (which cost 1.5 - 3X as much)
  • thanks FOMO right now is it better to get the 98inch qm851 or the x90l as the prices have dropped
  • @isaiahang6739
@stopthefomo is this the calibrated QM8 versus the uncalibrated X90L?
  • @garagesale5948
I have a 85" X90CK, could not be happier. Will use the $2K saved from the X95L to purchase room darkening shades for the window to allow the theater experience during the day.
  • @loye
for 85 inch Sony X77L and samsung Cu8000 , which one would you recommended for setting up home theatre ? the 85 inch CU8000 has 120hz native refresh rate, VRR support and 4 2.1 HDMI port . also freesynce premium .. But I feel like Sony colour is more realistic to the eyes. but I think I would also try to game on the 85inch TV, which must be a whole new experiences due to size. please advise
  • @conraddevera
are oleds still crushing darker details? been a few years since I've checked what's new
  • @Belgarath777
What a fantastic video. Its very easy to understand and very well produced. Anyway, this and a couple of other videos saying similar things is why the 98" X90L is in my top 3 TVs Im considering, along with the 85" X95l and the 85" Hisense UX which I hope you'll test. So putting price aside, if you were buying a TV for a room with a lot of ambient light (large windows), but no direct sun, would you be more excited to get the 98" x90 because its more than good enough and you get that unbelievable size, or would you want to close the gap even more with the superior, but smaller sized 85" x95l? 🙂

Great information. I’m curious if you have any hands on experience with the TCL Q6 and Q7. A lot of people saying the 5 and 6 series are better because of things like miniLED, is this the same situation where the Q6 and Q7 are doing more with less?
