How to Test Pressure Switch on a Furnace. In this video I show 3 ways how to check a pressure switch. The first method is to measure continuity and resistance while the furnace is running. The second method is to check voltage on the pressure switch while the furnace is running, and the third method is to put a manometer in series with the pressure switch to see what vacuum pressure the inducer motor is pulling and if it matches/exceeds the rating of the pressure switch.

  • Wow such a useful video. The reason it’s so different in my opinion is that you explain all the other systems and how they relate to the switch. You talk about the process, etc. most other videos strictly stick to testing the switch with no explanation of what it does or how it relates to the whole system
  • I spent my last ten years of working doing hvac trade, I wished I had found your videos back then. I would have been such a better tech. No one would invest the time to explain issues the way you do. You are doing a great service for all techs out there and then some. Thank you.

I’ve been in the HVAC field for 27 years... I must say that’s a great video

Thank God and thank you for giving out the information needed to fix furnaces. Husband followed your advice and took a carpet needle to clean out the very dirty tube connected to the Pressure Switch. The furnace has been out for days, and he was dreading disconnecting the metal exhaust for fear it might break. We thought it had a blockage. You said if the door panel is off and the furnace still has a problem, it is most likely not blocked exhaust. The furnace blinked 3 times, indicating an open pressure switch, or exhaust issue. You said to clean out that tube, and VOILA'! It WORKS again. You will be rewarded for helping people...maybe not in this realm, but the next.

I had a bad pressure switch a few years ago & I blew on the hose & sucked on it . I got the switch to work again but like you said, I went ahead & replaced the switch. No problems since. I watch all your videos & have saved a lot of money by doing the repairs myself using your videos as a guide. Great job!
  • YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST! May the joy of the Universe be with you at all steps of your life! Very educational and kind of you!
  • @dmace3597
Thank you thought it was a pressure switch problem until I watched one of your videos I opened the sealed combustion plate furnace started up and cleaned the intake tube and discovered 2 died mice blocking the intake. cleaned and furnace started right up.Saved me $200 plus thank you again.
  • Your are doing a good job,I have 6yrs on hvac and till learning from your videos thanks for your tips
  • This guy explains things so easy, more than my instructors, really smart guy. Thank you for the videos.

Dude, you are a Godsend! House was 48 degrees last night and 40 degrees this morning - and it's 20 degrees outside in the middle of New Hampshire winter. HVAC repair companies told me they could come out in about 7 days to take a look. Thanks to your excellent videos I took my time watching them, was extra careful with turning off power and not touching anything with the power on (other than with meter probes) and found and fixed a flaky pressure switch. House is back to 68 degrees again. Thank you for your excellent videos!

You're a natural teacher. Good video.

I have been dealing with a no heat issue for a few days now and all research related to my issue was useless and then I found your videos and now I know my issue is with the pressure switch! Great job on your videos and I'm sure I'll be watching more of them
  • Thank you so much. I just got EPA CERTIFIED and looking to get into the field. I confess I'm lacking confidence but videos like this help a lot.

I had a service guy come out, told me i had a bad motherboard-after he blew my home circut..??i told him to leave my home!! This guy does a wonderful job! Should teach tech class!
  • @Stfncosminul
hoooollly sheeesh , I didn't knew the thing about the voltage drop, that explains so much
  • I am an hvac technician and this information never gets old. You should not become to complacent because that is when you make mistakes. This is a well done video with great troubleshooting. Good job
  • @willgreen5023
I am not a HVAC person at all, but this video is great. I just removed the inducer motor components from my old furnace and I was wondering what that circular metal thing did. One search of the part number told me it was a pressure switch. Then, my second search for how furnace pressure switches work lead to this great video.
  • @jerryandruth
Great video. My home gas furnace would not ignite. I watched several of your related furnace diagnostic videos. I fixed it myself. One of the pressure switches was stuck. I simply blew softly into the tube until I heard the switches click. This fixed the problem. The furnace lit right up. Amazing. Saved me time hassle of calling a repairman, and probably over $200. You are doing a great service. JerryK..
  • @PatricksDIY
THANK YOU, you saved me so much Money! I could not figure out why the furnace was not igniting, everything tested out okay, until you said " Blow in the pressure switch tube" I pulled mine off and somehow the inducer end of the hose connection had a piece of rust stuck in it. I got it out, connected the hose back up and Viola! I had heat again. So again Thank you very much! I was at the point where I was about to call an HVAC tech, because I will not mess with any of the "gas parts" just checking connections, igniter ect.
