I'm from Japan and NYU is fascinating to me, now, its my dream school. I have some concerns but never give up to become an NYU student next year, I hope we will see :)

Hi! I just found your video and it was super helpful. After some soul searching I finally settled on going into film as a major and I fell in love with Tisch’s program. I’ve always loved nyc and preforming arts with my whole heart and I knew I wanted to be in that world, I just wasn’t sure exactly where. The only problem is I’ve found myself more than halfway through junior year with basically no experience in film. The extent of my experience goes as far as 3 terms of a middle school video production class and 1 week into a paid technical theatre internship. I’ve done a lot of other preforming arts things but nothing that really relates to film. I honestly don’t even think I know how to use a camera anymore nor do I own one. I plan on applying to NYU early decision 2 next year while taking a video production class that centered around creating a portfolio but I’m worried if I’ll actually have quality work to submit due to my lack of time, experience and resources. I guess I’m wondering if you have any advice? Sorry for the word vomit btw

I plan on applying to NYU (as well as other schools) for film! I have a lot of ideas but not a lot of film experience so would it be bad if i were to make a bunch of shorts and films specifically to put in my portfolio? They aren't like specific films, I've just had these ideas but no resources or time to make them until now.

I'm currently a Junior in high school and am considering applying to NYU for film as well actually, and I have a couple questions I'd like your opinion on: I have a YouTube channel where I've done a lot of videos for (my own storytelling stuff) but I was wondering if you put that you have a YouTube channel do they research you (I'm kind of nervous because a lot of the videos I've made when I was younger so the writing isn't as good I guess)?? Also I want to try and get into some film festivals but it's really hard for me to get involved in those kind of things since I'm a foreigner (Canadian) living in China going to a bilingual high school lol. Also, I co-founded the school newspaper and I'm actually the head of the video department, where we'll be properly launching a video channel in the coming weeks (on Chinese social media). Provided this is successful, how do you think my chances would be? (For the record, I will also probably have 7-8 APs, unsure about SAT, and might get student council president)
