Murder in the Village: Bruce McArthur and the Mysterious Deaths in the 1970s - The Fifth Estate

In early 2018 Bruce McArthur was charged with six counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of missing men from Toronto's gay village, the news of an alleged serial killer shocked a community, a city and a country. But the case is far from closed and as the police continue their investigation, the death toll is expected to rise. The allegations are that McArthur spent years masterfully covering his tracks. McArthur denies all the accusations.
The police are also looking as far back as the 1970s when McArthur was a young man in his twenties, working in downtown Toronto.
Then, as now, death stalked the village. Then, as now, tensions and distrust between police and the gay community hampered the investigation.
The Fifth Estate uncovers the stories of men from Toronto’s gay community who were brutally killed over four decades ago. Many of those cases are still unsolved – cold cases that are now being re-opened.

You know who’s breathing a sigh of relief ? The guy who was tied up in the room when they arrested MacArthur. Can you imagine later finding out he was a serial killer - and just how close you came in being his next victim ?😬

I think the Fifth Estate is one of the best documentary channels. So much so I wish the episodes were longer.
-
I think it's extremely unlikely he started when he was 66. A comfortable pattern developed. This man is probably responsible for well over a hundred murders.
-
I will almost guarantee he's responsible for a lot more murders
-
Charged with an 8th murder today
-
I'm waiting for the complete documentary on this guy when he confesses....I mean it's such a crazy story...
-
Sounds like this guy has a LOT of skeletons in his closet. Very likely soon to be known as one of Canada's worst serial killers. Scary stuff.

The update is wild. He was found guilty but eligible for parole after 25 years? How about never? Edit: I found out how old he is but still. I think they should just say life without.
-
This only scratches the surface. He was charged with another count of murder two days ago which brings it up to his 8th victim.
-
My heart breaks for the victims, their families and this community.

god the archival footage from the 70s is art.

Never trust a mall santa

So the deaths started right after he moved to the area, and happened in a similar way. That really doesn't sound like a coincidence. Combined with the fact that it isn't exactly common for serial killers to suddenly start at retirement age.

This episode shoulda been longer. I wanted to hear about the recent victims. More than just their names. Hopefully they redo this correctly after his trial.

Between him and magnotta and russell williams - canada has the craziest killers ever!

Monsters dont look like monsters

Great documentary. It would not surprise me if this guy was responsible for the murders dating back to the 1970's.
-
Great documentary fifth estate. Thanks for accomplishing such astronomical work

So many women do not report because of the way they are treated in the system. I wonder, how many from the lgbtq community reported, and were dismissed.

thank you posting such a great clip The Fifth Estate - I appreciate it!
