Irony here. Stellantis cannot make a viable electric car, yet they are giving gratuitous design advice to people who have made and sold five million electric cars.

Tavares is a businessman, not an engineer. He will make every argument to cloud the waters in favor of ICE cars. Yes, would be nice if batteries were half the weight, it would also be nice if ICE cars emitted half as many noxious fumes, cost half as much to maintain and cost half as much to operate. The battery industry is closer every day to making a lighter battery. ICE cars will never be able to cure all that is wrong with an ICE car.

The path to lighter EVs is building more EVs, as that's what will drive investment and innovation the fastest. What's his suggestion? We stick with ICE while they indefinitely pretend to work on getting batteries good enough, with EVs coming in "a few years" indefinitely like Toyota's been doing with the solid state battery they've been tooting since 2014 but which no one has ever seen or even seen facotirs being built to produce?

ICE cars are measured with empty fuel tanks, no engine oil or other liquids of any sort. Add that in and suddenly the difference is not that much.

Legacy auto is much like Intel right now. They had leadership position, got lazy and started repackaging the same shit over and over again with minor improvements to maximize profits. The competition eventually blew past them and now all they can do is yell at the clouds because they replaced all their competent engineers with beancounters.

Hi Sam, greetings from the U.K. Now I know from previous videos that you don’t like the EV I have, a BMW i3, but it weighs just 1200kgs thanks to its carbon fibre, aluminium and plastic construction. Mine will be 5 years old in September, and it has been awesome. My only maintenance has been 4 new tyres at 37k miles. No sign of any battery issues.

The Model 3 weighs about 3400 pounds. A Honda Accord weighs 3250 pounds. Load that accord up and its about the same as the 3. Point being, Tesla can do it.

Tesla doesn't defend it's patents and Tavares still can't manufacture an EV for a profit. Bad management unable to attract great engineers?

CATL have a battery that gets 500 watts per kilo, another company is coming out with a solid state battery that is 700 watts per kilo. Electric Viking you have reported on this. Thus battery packs at 50% of the weight already exist.

Ice car engines are all recycled. They go through the crusher and contribute high quality iron and aluminium for casting new engines. Some even get pulled out, rebuilt or shelved, and become replacement motors for other ice cars.

Lets calculate in weight how much fuel a car will use for 20000 km. 10 litres per 100 km on average equals 100kg of fuel for 1000km. 20000km uses 2 tonnes of fuel. 100000km uses ten tonnes of fuel.
