Spyderco Manix 2 LW Disassembly/Maintenance

Published 2024-03-06
In this video I’ll be doing some routine maintenance to my Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight. This includes disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and tuning. This is not a how to video, but hopefully through my trial and error you may learn something! Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Thanks to ‪@Idaho_Knife_Climb‬ for the video suggestion.

Thanks to ‪@metal_complex‬ for the great blade centering technique! I’ve used this technique many times in the past and I’ve had great results. Check out his channel for detailed instructions.

If you have any suggestions on content you would like to see, drop a comment! I’m always looking for new content and edc gear to check out.

Thanks for watching!

I got one in magnacut and rit dyed the scales somewhere between army green and olive drab green with a slight pearlesnce to it. I didn't disassemble it because I tend to lose parts but because its a salt version it didn't hurt a thing.

Yours is the only video that I have found showing disassembly of the Manix 2 LW screw-together construction. This will definitely help when I upgrade my scales to the AWT aluminum 'skinny' scales. Thank you

Well done! That "loosen then tighten" thing for the backspacer is definitely a pro move. Its even more important when swapping blades. Probably 80% of issues people have with bladeswaps can be solved by doing that.

For stropping the washers, I got better and more consistent results by doing a figure 8. I also start off on green compound and finish off on 1 micron diamond emulsion.

Very helpful. I just picked up this knife in CPM m4.

Im at 8 or 9 sets of AWT on Spyderco, but with the LW Manix, i feel like Sal and Eric need to call them for an official factory collabo. Its really amazing. I thought the Native 5 was cool, this is the one.

Blade HQ has a promo with Spyderco. Buy a knife and get a Spyderco mat.

Thanks for this very well done video . I just bought my Manix 2 (the same one as you have here) a few weeks ago and this is a HUGE help . I have no problem taking small things apart and putting them back together again , but the tips you show are super helpful .

Thanks for being the Guinea pig! I’ve yet to buy the LW version. I’ve put a ceramic bearing and lighter spring in my G10 so I’m wondering if they’re the same. Have you had a chance to compare?
  • I don't lubricate my knives anymore. The lube attracts dust, dirt, and lint. That's what fouls the action. Todays bearings or phosphor bronze washers provide enough glide to dispense with the oils. When my knife is acting slow, I simply blow some compressed air in there and I'm back to new.

Note to self if i buy this never open lol your a brave man great job ...soap and warm water is always your friend 😅😊
  • @hdrvman
I think those captive washers prevent the bronze washers from wearing on the plastic scales !!!
  • @shane_wc
where did you get this from? is it the cheapest version 2 of the LW?
  • @arivion
My pocket clip rivets are spinning with the screws, how do I stop this? Yours seems to just loosen.
  • @AggroSamurai
How much wear does the detent ball cause on the tang of the blade ?
