Wow Kevy, my heart goes out to you my brother. There are no words I can say that will help you, but no my prayers are with you.
  • @rbndamiano1
I’m so sorry Brother! Thank you for sharing your story, and for the talents you have shared with the world for 40+ years!! You rock!

Good luck - I am having hand problems (pretty bad arthritic changes in my wrists at the 1st carpal/metacarpal joint), but nothing approaching what you have going on. You're right; the hand condition won't kill you, but be careful; depression can be very deadly. Thoughts and prayers your way.

Consider going to Panama for Stem Cell treatment. If you need a name and clinic, happy to assist. Stem Cell treatments are roughly about $3000 for treatment course, you might only need one treatment course. Wish you well and good luck.

I think it's inherited . My father, brother and myself have DC. I'm 63 and am borderline stage 2. My younger brother is stage 3. I have lost some speed and dexterity, but I credit all the stretching exercises' I do with it not being worse. Take satisfaction for what you can do and don't dwell on limitations, adapt and find ways around, it's part of aging. All the best.

Had trigger finger which is similar. Went away after a year. Still stiff fingers in the morning. Good luck. By the way, got it by practicing stretch triads.

Aw hell, Kevin. I'm so sorry. I feel you on the depression thing, though. Been recently medicated, myself. I hope, if your hands can't get better, your spirit does. If you still have my number, reach out if you just want to vent. PS: Blonde looks good on you. :)

Kevy, check into radiation therapy. My wife has Dupuytren’s and she got radiation therapy and it did help. It didn’t completely cure it, but it did help. The longer you wait, the less effective it is, so start checking into it now. It’s not really a brand new treatment, but a lot of doctors in the US are not aware of it. Our insurance did cover the treatment, but we had to get special approval.

I have the same condition, only mine is between my index- and middle-finger. Unfortunately my bump is bigger than the top of my thumb. I had plastic surgery on it before and it came back bigger. Pain in my joints all day, but I keep playing until my hands don't work no more and then I'll be trying to use my feet. ps (I'm not northic nor white lol)
  • Django Reinhardt only had use of his thumb, index, and middle finger on his fretting hand due to a severe burn injury in which he nearly died. Just saying...

A guitarist's worst nightmare? OK, wrist problems are bad, but nowhere near as bad as sharing a stage with another guitarist who's better than you!

Wish you the very best. I understand totally the carpal tunnel issue right there with you, from years of abuse working with tools. Not fun if you play guitar. But the Dupuytren's Contracture is a whole other beast. Sucks they can't begin the treatments of steroid injections or Collagenase injections without it progressing, because it seems like the collagenase works really well with folks who've tried it. Anyways, wishing you a good quick resolution!
