The sun bears are vanishing from Borneo’s rainforests. With deforestation, pet trade and meat poaching, they’re facing threats from all sides.

That’s why in our newest mission, we’re protecting this keystone species to preserve a delicate ecosystem.

This was a rollercoaster of cuteness and sadness

Jude is the real hero in this story.. no vacations from being a bear mommy in the middle of the forest! Wow, what an amazing and immersive job.
  • @abaciuci
that is such a cute bear, I can't believe how sweet it is. I hope Tenom will manage it well in the wild and hopefully even start a family

I can’t imagine how bittersweet it must be to successfully release a cub you raised back into the wild. In some ways there must be no greater pride and joy, while in others I just can’t imagine raising a baby animal for years only to have to say goodbye forever and leave her fate up to nature.

I have nothing but THE utmost respect for people like Jude and Dr Wong. Godspeed, little Tenom!
  • Just joined last month and this was my first mission I supported! The work you guys do is incredible, and I’m more than glad to keep supporting important projects like this

Bears are sweet animals that love their solitude. I’ve volunteered at a Bear Rehab center before. It’s almost impossible to get an orphan cub back into wild because they learn life skills from mother. Great attempts by the Doc and caregivers. I hope with the success of baby Tenom, many little ones get their wild life back. Good luck for Mission Success ✌️
  • I can´t get past the fact that Jude is from now on going to spend night and day in the company of a bear cub, in the rain forest, for 2-3 years. What a commitment!

Wow, this video is incredibly moving! The bond between the bear cub and its human family is heartwarming. It’s so uplifting to see that she‘ll have a second chance at life. Truly inspiring! 🐻💖

What a fantastic project. Fingers crossed for the little bear.

Wow, Jude is awesome! He truly is dedicating years of his life to take care of little Tenom and the bond shows. It'll be such a bittersweet moment when Tenom leaves, but hopefully he'll do well and start a family of his own, he'll tell his kids that he's half bear and half human because his second mommy was an incredible man! haha🐻

So used to watch videos like this about other countries, now this one is actually in my country. Beruang Matahari or Beruang Madu, if come up on the news, is usually when they got spotted in a human neighbourhood. I wish for the best to Tenom, the teams, and the rewilding mission.

Awwww, this is amazing!!! She is cuter than I had envisioned and I can see why it's a bittersweet emotion for Jude, Dr. Wong and the entire team!! 💓 this mission so much! Release the bear to show you care 🐻

I already visited the sun bear conservation center in Sandakan! Great place, and very good work they are doing there. Not just for the animals, but also for teaching the public about the native endangered species in a very sustainable way.

You guys shed just a little bit of hope for the planet and all the other species we've absolutely ravaged and for me every time I see a project. This is very interesting and I'll be keeping an eye out for future updates to see how it goes. IF we can really manage to teach creatures the skills they need to survive in the wild and release them, it would be absolutely game changing. I'm guessing that they'll slowly have to stop feeding her as much food over the training period so she has to learn to forage for herself, which is totally doable, but getting her to break that human bond I think is going to be very difficult - people who don't deal with animals don't understand how easy it is to imprint across species, really hoping this can work. Expect that they'd leave the cage there when she's finally set wild, closed of course for future bears and maybe she'll come back and help teach them.
  • @Morraak
Aww, super cute. If only poaching just didn't happen anymore.
