  • Thank you for staying with Def Leppard after your accident. You are an eternal gift to rock and roll music.

I've followed Def Leppard since I was a child, I'm 51 years old, and I still get excited every time I see Rick playing drums with the band.
  • I met Rick many years ago and I can say that he is one of the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet. He was going through the motions of an autograph line after a show, and when it was my turn I asked him about his kick pedals, because I had just bought the same ones. He perked up (like you want to talk about drums?). He talked drums with me for at least 15 minutes (much to the chagrin of the people after me), still took a pic and signed my ticket. Couldn’t have been a better human being that night. I’ll always treasure that memory. On top of that, I have to point out his drumming ability at the show. The drumming on the albums is pretty straight forward, but he tears it up live.

I remember the news when this happened and I thought to myself that it's all done for him as a drummer. I was pleasantly surprised by the way he came back from his arm getting cut off.. the band stood by him and he learned a whole new way of playing drums.. nothing but respect and love for him and the band.
  • He is and will always be my “Thunder GOD” on the drums 💯🤘 inspiring is a understatement
  • He donates to vets, I am in awe. He has my utmost respect as a veteran, a drummer, and a man. He has really become a hero for me even more. Thanks for doing this.

Jamal in 1997 I lost part of my left arm to the flesh eating virus and in 2019 when Def Leppard toured Canada with the band Tesla I got a chance to meet Rick as the band was entering the venue anyway I said to Rick he was my inspiration to get better he actually grabbed me and gave me a hug and I got to meet Joe Elliot and and guitar player Vivian Campbell a cancer survivor anyway they put on an incredible concert that night in London Ontario Canada if you ever get a chance to see Def Leppard live do it you won't be disappointed
  • They reference the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame speech and it's definitely one worth watching. The standing ovation Rick gets and his response brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

I remember that accident just like it was yesterday. My high school class graduated in 1984 and as fans, my friends and I thought maybe Def Leppard would be no more. We couldn't have been more wrong. It speaks volumes without a single word being spoken about WHO the members of Def Leppard really are as human beings. They never gave up on Rick Allen, they never gave up on each other even after the loss of Steve Clark. More importantly, Rick Allen never gave up on himself and he has continued to inspire people from all walks of life. What he and Lauren have given back to the fans, community and Veteran's is OUTSTANDING!!! Well done Sir. Well done indeed. Thanks for sharing Jamel! ~APRIL LIPKE

I have met Rick and let me tell you, I’ve never met a nicer musician. He gave me a great big hug and I was shaking so he hugged me again. He is def my hero
  • One of those rare people in the world! Bless this man!!! He figured out what he needed as far as equipment to play the drums as well as he did before the accident. Oh and by the way, the band after their close friend lost his arm decided that it was over and they were going to break up. But this man laying there with one arm in the hospital bed told them that the hell they were going to break up. He was going to recover from this and figure out what he needed to do to play the drums again. He actually held the band together when they thought it was over. Even at a young age he had that much driving determination. 💝

The first time Rick played with Def Leppard after the accident was at the Donnington Monsters of Rock show, the one up was Ozzy headlining, Scorpions on just before him then Def Leppard with Motörhead before them, Bad News before them and Warlock opening the show. Ozzy, Scorpions and Motörhead were stupendous and Warlock were awesome and it was the only time I saw them live. Bad News were just a joke ! Don’t know why they ever got added to the bill. Now, Pyromania had done very well for Def Leppard in the U.K. and Europe but it was 3 years before this show and Hysteria was still a year out from release. They played Love & Affection the only new song and the rest were classics as it was only 40-50 mins for their slot. As Joe was introducing a song he changed his mind and his voice started to crack and tears welled up in his eyes. He did an awesome welcome back to Rick who was coaxed out to the front of stage and everyone started chanting and clapping, whistling, and roaring with not a dry eye anywhere, big burly bikers reduced to gibberish wrecks !!! That was THE moment of the day and their set was just magical as everyone wasn’t sure what it was going to sound like was Rick going to have another drummer along side him ???? When he came out and they hit straight into Stagefright and he was thundering away on the kit as usual it was a mythical moment.

  • @Boodieman72
I have to say kudos to the rest of the band for waiting for him to recover and being real friends.
  • @liquidSpin
I've been fortunate to meet Rick Allen twice. He truly is a down to earth, genuine and kind human being. Lauren his wife is equally genuine and kind hearted as well. They make a great couple. His story reminds me to keep going no matter how tough life can get.
  • @ronnieicard
A lot of people go into "self-pity" mode when something tragic happens in their life. They shut down. They give up. This man didn't give up. He came back better, and he came back a better person. When a person opens their eyes and comes out of self-pity mode, they find that they can overcome anything. Self-pity mode can defeat a person real quick if they let it. If a person will get themselves out of self-pity mode, GOD will do the rest. HE will show you and lead you down a path to victory. This man was determined to overcome his situation. And I guarantee you, God was with him the rest of the way. All he had to do was get out of his self-pity mode.
  • Thank you i haven't seen that! But was definitely around at the beginning of Def Lep! I grew up with them so to speak! They waited a long time for Rick, never even entertained finding someone else! That is incredibly cool..always saying we are all family. It was too, at the height of their career! Supporting him along! We would all be blessed to have good friends & family like these guys!
  • @sonnyd1222
Jamel, if you ever get the chance to see them live, don't hesitate, do it! Love, love, love Rick! The Def Leppard guys have certainly shown us all how it should be done over the years. 🤘🤩🎶❤️
